  1. I mean, I think after a few weeks of Canadian winter, I’d change my mind and go to Mexico instead, too. I don’t really even like the air that Canada sends down here during the winter, let alone what stays up there.

  2. (Jokes about weather aside, though, I assume that the main reason for people moving from America to Mexico is because they or their parents are actually from Mexico and were temporarily working in the U.S.)

  3. I don’t know where to go when I decide to flee on election night in 2024. My Spanish is horrible. My French is worse. I don’t have Irish ancestry. The Conservatives will still be in power in the UK in 2024. And the Australian Labor government still tends to treat political refugees as unwanted. New Zealand it is.

  4. For those who remember the Alaska Airlines TV ads from years ago . . . I can’t help but think about Southwest for some reason.

  5. I don’t have a WaPo subscription, so can’t read the article, but it seems odd to conflate boomers moving to Canada in the 70s to avoid the draft with boomers moving to Mexico in the 21st century for cheaper retirement living outside of the systems they broke.

  6. It’s much easier to move from the US to Mexico vs Canada. Canada is a lot more stringent in its immigration rules, and is basically impossible for anyone not retired, not in college or not already hired to work for a Canadian employer before they arrive at the border. I’m not sure Mexico cares as much about keeping out Americans as Canada does.

  7. A rabbi and a duck walk into a bar and the bartender asks, “Where’s the priest?” The duck responds, “He was flying Southwest.”

  8. Maybe we could just inject them with the UV, get the light right inside. That might be worth looking into.
