Last month American Airlines revamped the way they sell tickets online.
Then late last month I wrote that American would be changing the fare class of domestic 2-cabin first class from F to J as part of its move to free up fare buckets to sell the new premium economy cabin.

So here’s what this means.
- F was full fare first class. That becomes J on 2-cabin domestic flights. (It’s business class on American’s premium transcon flights.)
- A was confirmed upgrade space. That becomes D on 2-cabin domestic flights.
- P was discount first class. That becomes I on 2-cabin domestic flights.
There’s going to be a schedule change and when it runs tickets will be reissued.
one hidden aspect is aligning with BA Avios awards, which used to treat AA domestic F as 3-class F and charge very high mileage.
Will this impact avios award bookings? (in a good way?)
