If you’re considering a Hilton credit card it’s advisable to wait until next week to apply.

Update: two readers in the comments point out that the applications are now available, even though Hilton said to expect it on the 11th.

Comments

  1. Am in fact considering the Aspire. Weighing it versus the new Amex Starwood Luxury, which I got before the Aug. 26 deadline but have not yet activated due to concerns re what’s going on with Marriott and whether I’d actually get the initial spend bonus points. Or maybe I’ll go for both, since I’ll have enough initial spend to go around.

Anyway, thanks for the heads up.

  2. Interesting news. Unfortunately, many of us have used our Amex “lifetimes” and won’t be eligible. I hope these are exempt, but that’s not the way the wind has been blowing lately.

  3. They’re live now. No need to lie to your readers, you’re just waiting for your affiliate links.

  4. @Sagar Vashishta – excuse me? When I wrote this the offers were definitely not live. I quoted Hilton saying the offers were becoming available. When Frequent Miler wrote this (published around the same time as this post, though I wrote it a couple of hours before publishing) they wrote “I logged into my Hilton account to see if I would see these offers available. I do not see them available in my Hilton.com account. However, when I went to make a dummy booking, I did receive the offer for the no-fee Hilton card:”

Good to know the offers are live, as @DCJoe offers – I get great info from my readers. But you might want to tone down the accusation piece, because it’s simply untrue. You might even consider apologizing.

  5. Gary – I don’t usually agree with troll-ish behavior, but I’m reading this post an hour after you acknowledged the correction in the comments, yet there is no update to your actual post indicating they are now live.
An apology would be inappropriate at this point. As it stands, his argument is still valid given that you haven’t updated your post to indicate those offers are now live.

  6. And yet strangely the post wasn’t even updated to reflect the new info you have. Color me surprised.

  7. @Sagar – I had a lawyer meeting, a pre-scheduled phone interview, and spent about 30 seconds approving comments in the moderation queue in between so I wasn’t able to do it in the less than one hour between seeing two readers mention this and your snark. Of course now I’m answering you (when you should be apologizing) rather than updating this post. Fortunately I have 5 minutes until my next meeting for work so I should be able to get an update added.

    Apology accepted.

  8. Does Amex offer match? I opened the card less than two months ago and have exceeded the spend.

  9. Omg @gary Leff I really dont understand why people are always judging you… Thank you very much for the info!! I was on the fence about applying for the aspire and with the better sign up bonus I am going to do it now!

  10. There are many times I very much appreciate the info Gary shares and times when I disagree with him, including on some of the information he supplies or doesn’t supply for the credit cards he describes. But please folks, let’s give the guy a break. He’s not at our beck and call to correct every inadvertent piece of misinformation instantly.

  11. I have a question for you two trolls, would you have even checked for an increased offer if Gary hadn’t alerted you to the fact that they were coming?

Every site needs a good hall monitor. Thank you, may I have a potty pass?

  12. Lets focus this thread on data that actually helps readers and not troll the person who has given us so much valuable information over the years.

That said, I tried to have Amex match the offer with no luck. They did give me $50 for the inconvenience. Did it via chat. I may try to call and see if I can escalate.

I opened the card in June.

  13. Am I on the Amex black list? Not eligible for offer however I have not had this card before. Got the same message on the Hilton Biz 125,000 offer too. Anyone else in the same position?

  14. Hi Gary: I truly appreciate the hard work you do for us. Regarding the negative, nasty, “entitled,” bitter, envious and asinine comments made by Sagar and that other dimwit, they do not deserve your time or response. It blows me away that these negative jerks have the effrontery to act as if you have no right to earn anything from the hard work you do to run your site. Apparently, these grifters, mooches and looters think that you should regard yourself as nothing more than a medieval serf obligated to satisfy their Royal puffed-up demands, and undeserving of any form of compensation for your efforts. I wonder if Sagar and that other self-important and imperious critic work for nothing, if they even have jobs. If it were my site, I’d tell those two non-appreciative takers and moochers to go elsewhere for their free information, and to go to hell while they are at it. The “entitlement” disease in this country has become an epidemic, as their vitriol demonstrates. You don’t owe those people a damn thing. I love your site, and hope you keep up your fine work despite the nasty comments of arrogant trolls who mistakenly think they are other people’s masters and have the right to boss people around. Sheeeesh.

  15. Gary, we totally support you and are sorry you have to put up with such idiotic comments. We will wait for your links to these Hilton offers as it’s the least we can do to thank you for all the great info you share every day!!! Please keep it up 🙂

  16. Gary, please ignore these Monday morning quarterbacks. It’s a lot easier to criticize than to create. I too will be waiting for your links. Thanks for all you do to support and educate those of us who enjoy this hobby!
