Jet Airways flight 2374 from Goa to Mumbai skidded after aborting takeoff and made a 360 degree turn.
The Jet Airways flight 9W 2374 was carrying 154 passengers and 7 crew members onboard when it aborted take off and skidded on the runway at Dabolim airport. All the passengers were evacuated safely but 15 passengers suffered “minor” injuries.
A technical glitch while aligning for takeoff caused the incident, Jet Airways said.
Economic Times aviation journalist @mihirmishraET shared photos of the Boeing 737-800:
Mishra also wrote, “Jet’s B737-800 skid off runway, while doing the turn on the turn pad. Goa airport has a single runway (Runway 26)”
This would have been a 263 mile flight.
Other reports suggest 12 injuries versus 15 although apparently those injuries were minor and everyone is ‘safe’.
Some passengers said they saw smoke in the cabin as the aircraft began taxiing on the runway. One of the injured described how the accident unfolded.
“I fractured my leg,” said Dinesh Kumar, a passenger on Times Now TV channel. “The moment the plane started running on the runway, it slipped into the nearby field and there was smoke inside the flight.”
Here’s video of the aircraft on the ground after the incident:
