JetBlue Offers Status Matches… And Status Challenges If You Aren’t Elite With a Competitor Airline at All

JetBlue is offering a status challenge through April 18. If you have eligible elite status with another airline now, they’ll give you status through the end of 2014 — and if you complete a challenge you’ll keep it for 2015. If you aren’t already an elite frequent flyer with a competitor, you can just do the challenge — complete it and you’ll receive status through the end of 2015. The ‘challenge’ criteria to earn status for all of 2015 is 3750 base flight points ($1250 spend in airfare excluding taxes) in 90 days. Status levels where they will offer an upgrade to the JetBlue Mosaic level: Alaska Airlines®: Mileage PlanTM MVP® Gold or MVP® Gold 75k American Airlines®: AAdvantage Platinum® or Executive Platinum® Delta®: SkyMiles Medallion® Gold, Platinum or Diamond Southwest®: Rapid Rewards® A-List Preferred…

3.2% Travel Rebate Card, Peer-to-Peer Hotel Rental Turns Into Sex Party, and Musicians Not Welcome at the U.S. Border (Bits ‘n Pieces for March 18, 2014)

News and notes from around the interweb: The perils of Airbnb: “Teman said his apartment was trashed by a group of nearly nude, overweight people” Citi Prestige card improvements: Apparently Citi Prestige will still offer to match ‘flight points,’ meaning that the card can earn 2 points per dollar, and redeeming those points for American or US Airways travel can be worth 1.6 cents apiece. A bit convoluted, but that means it’s possible to get an effective 3.2% rebate towards travel. The $450 card offers $200 in airline fee reimbursements. Far more straightforward, the Barclaycard Arrival PlusTM World Elite MasterCard® provides an effective rebate of 2.2% towards travel on all spending. (HT: A reader who emailed me on Sunday and asked to remain anonymous.) Hack My Trip compiles several hotel booking bonus offers from Rocketmiles.…

Malaysia MH370 Located… By Courtney Love

This morning I linked to what struck me as one of the more far-fetched theories on Malaysia Airlines flight 370 that didn’t involve space aliens. But we no longer need to speculate. Because Courtney Love has found the plane. Heck, and I’ve turned down media to talk about this because I consider myself a non-expert. Though as one commenter said… swear to god if courtney love finds the f!@#$ plane You can join the 30,000+ people who see these deals and analysis every day — sign up to receive posts by email (just one e-mail per day) or subscribe to the RSS feed. Air France New Business Class Nearly Ready to Deploy

The old Air France business class product is legions behind its competitors. It’s similar to American’s old, angled business class that they’re in the process of doing away with. So it’s about time they do away with it. And they are going to start to do that partially between June 2014 and summer 2016. It’s very similar to the Cathay Pacific seat. .. and the new American seat (on their 777-300ER). Similar seats can also be found on EVA Airways’ 777-300ER and on Delta transpacific flights. I’d rate it more highly than the British Airways seat — BA pioneered fully flat across the Atlantic — as well as the Air Canada, new Lufthansa, Brussels Airlines, and Virgin Atlantic seats. The problem is this, though: so far it’s only be put into about 2/3rds of the…

I Was Such a Novice Traveler Then, And There’s Still So Much I Don’t Know

I was a frequent traveler growing up. My parents were divorced. I lived in New York and my father in California and I flew back and forth regularly, first as an unaccompanied minor and later without that supervision. As a young child I remember wearing a tie when I flew. As a teenager I flew to Australia — on American Airlines, with a stop in Honolulu — on my own. So I like to think of myself as developing a taste for travel, and an expertise, at a young age. And yet… I was so helpless in so many ways. After I graduated college I moved to the Washington, DC area. By that time ‘home’ was California, and for my first trip back I certainly worked hard to find good airfare… a $300 fare, rather…

Have Elite Status With United, American, or Another Airline? Here’s How You Can Get Elite Benefits With Delta, Too

Points to be Made says that China Airlines – a member of Skyteam and thus partner of Delta – is offering status matches. As usual, you will need to provide details of the airline and programme you are matching from, your account number and a screenshot of your activity page. To initiate the process, send an email to ndfp@china-airlines.com who should match your status for one year.. China Airlines’ Emerald status, that they appear to be matching to at least for Star Alliance Gold members but presumably for oneworld Emeralds as well, is “Skyteam Elite Plus” which gets priority check-in, boarding, and baggage handling as well as lounge access when flying internationally. (Unlike top tier status with oneworld or Star Alliance with an airline outside the U.S., you do not get lounge access on a…

Marriott Rewards Denies Any Plan to Gut the Program

Yesterday I linked to a rumor about supposed upcoming changes to Marriott Rewards. I emphasized that it was a rumor, I didn’t have direct knowledge but it was something posted by Loyalty Traveler. It was based on a posting in the Marriott Insiders online community. The gist was a new higher award redemption tier, increased point requirements across the board for all tiers, an end to automatic lounge access for Gold and Platinum members when not upgraded to an executive floor, and confirmed suite upgrades for Platinum Premier members in a new formalized top tier. Marriott Rewards has denied that these changes are pending. (HT: Matt in the comments.) There are no changes planned to Elite benefits. There is nothing hidden in these words – we have no devaluation of Elite benefits in the discussion,…
