Delta Wants to Veto the Next Air France CEO and Councilman Bullies American’s Frontline Employees

News and notes from around the interweb:

  • Wells Fargo’s new no annual fee card offers triple points on dining, travel and streaming services but of course those points are redeemable for just one penny apiece in rewards.

  • The Supreme Court’s more conservative members ruled 5-4 for American Express that its rules forbidding merchants who take their cards from incentivizing consumers to use different payment methods didn’t violate competition laws. American Express has been lowering its interchange fees, anyway, trying to get more small businesses to accept its cards.

  • The leading candidate for Air France CEO is being nixed by KLM and Delta

  • Aeroplan is promoting what it’ll look like come summer 2020 when it’s no longer linked to Air Canada and no longer has access to Star Alliance saver awards. I’m looking to burn my stash of Aeroplan miles before that happens.

  • Hyatt Regency employees in Hawaii were pressured to pay full union dues even after opting out of full membership. Their hotel requires some level of membership as a condition of employment. The employees complained. The NLRB ruled that the demands from the union were so absurd that they couldn’t have been real and thus no sanctions could be imposed. A federal judge disagrees. • Ex-Fort Worth councilman Joel Burns regularly flies American and regularly complains that his flights are announced as headed to ‘Dallas’. I have a commenter who complains when I fail to give Fort Worth its due, too. Burns by the way says he’s for “bullying’s end” but he seems to bully American’s front line employees over this issue. 1. @gary – more hate for Delta in your post title…it’s not just Delta but also KLM that don’t like the new CEO candidate.

  2. Supreme Court just ruled that you can’t be forced to pay dues or join unions if you don’t want to. That should save some of those employees of Hyatt who refuse to do so in Hawaii, although I don’t know what would happen given the mandate of this federal judge. It’s a wait and see, but the higher court has ruled that people cannot be forced to do what the unions what them to do.

  3. @Musketeer43

The SCOTUS ruling on unions/dues pertains to those employees in the public sector (teachers, police, firefighters, etc.). It don’t believe it applies to those employed in the private sector, such as Hyatt employees.
