British Airways is offering double points through the end of the year. This applies to all British Airways flights, as well as to British Airways codeshare flights on American Airlines, Iberia and Finnair when traveling between the US and Europe. Registration required.

I love double miles. There are three things, however, that I do not like about this promotion:

• Oddly only members 18 years old and older qualify. Kids do not earn double points.
  
• Only your first 10 flights count. So if you have long British Airways flights later in the year this promotion encourages you to avoid taking them on short haul segments before then.
  
• Bookings made prior to registration do not count. They don’t want to spend money to incentivize travel they were going to get anyway. But this means they choose not to reward loyal customers, and teach members it’s better to wait to book until there’s an offer.

If you’re a British Airways flyer anyway this is fantastic. I wouldn’t choose British Airways because of this promotion however. Still, there’s no reason not to register — even if it’s just in case you happen to fly BA before the end of the year.
