Starwood Promotions: Starwood is out with their fall promotion — double Starpoints on eligible stays of two or more nights and triple Starpoints if the stay includes a Friday or Saturday night (Thursday or Friday night in the Middle East) between September 15 and December 15.
Where have we seen this before? (No quadruple points option this time, nor any mobile booking bonus.)
Registration is required by October 31, but there’s no reason not to register now — just in case — even if you don’t expect to make any eligible stays during the promotion period. Perhaps you’re like me: I often find that I don’t know where my future self is going to stay…
Here’s the list of non-participating hotels, which is to say that Starwood Preferred Guest isn’t picking up the whole cost of this promotion out of its own marketing budget and so hotels had to be solicited to sign on and had to be willing to spend some money for the bonus points. Most did though, I count ~ 170 hotels opting out in total.
Double points are better than single points, of course, but given the modest base rate at which Starpoints are earned for in-hotel stay this promotion isn’t strong enough to encourage me to shift any business.
That said, I’m going to hit Starwood Platinum status on nights this year so I’ll likely find myself in some of their properties during the promotion period.

Quick question – As a newbie to business travel – if a travel agent makes my reservations at a hotel, am I still eligible to earn points? Agent made a three night stay at the Westin Tokyo for me, but when I signed into my starwood account I couldn’t pull the reservation in. When I phoned starwood customer service, rep said the stay may not be eligible for points and that’s the reason I couldn’t add it to my on-line profile? Sound reasonable?
@Kim – it depends — online travel agency bookings like orbitz and expedia don’t earn points or stay credit (or aren’t supposed to) while public commissionable rates usually will.
yawn on their entire promotion
Ill take IHG and Hyatt
even Hilton for that matter or should I dare say
Marriott Rewards
I do about about 10 nights/mo. and find signing up for these type things is worth it (whether IHG, Hilton, Starwood…) to pick up the extra points. Not because the points drive me to their hotels, but because I’m liable to be there from time-to-time as a result of their rate or availability.
