Exit Row Seats Are The Best, Why Are People Now Avoiding Them? [Roundup]

News and notes from around the interweb:

  • No one wants to sit in the exit row of a Boeing 737 anymore? That has not been my experience!
    @jetset.genius Boeing 737 exit rows are wide open these days. Flight attendant said “go for it, no one wants these seats” Great legroom though! #boeing #boeing737 #boeing737max #southwestairlines #exitrow #airplane #aviation #avgeek #flying #travel #plane #legroom #flightattendant ♬ Cena Engraçada e Inusitada – HarmonicoHCO

  • I spoke at ZorkFest, the casino and frequent flyer loyalty conference, back in the fall and it was a great time – small upscale gathering. This year it will be in Vegas, November 1-3, and with event details just announced they’re offering the lowest price on tickets as a ‘flash sale’. Many of you will enjoy it, and location certainly more convenient than Reno last year!

  • Hyatt Regency Saipan closes July 1

  • Canada simply dismisses half of all airline complaints without explanation

  • This person is literally insane – everyone should tip street performers $20, $20 to valets ($10 both on the way in and out), 25% at meals and $5 per drink… and this is all somehow standard across Las Vegas whether you’re downtown, at the Wynn, or Circus Circus?

The street performer bit is best, though, if 1,000 passer-by’s followed this advice each street performer would be making $20,000 per day. If you assume that a majority of people won’t follow the advice, then it’s not the Vegas standard!

  • Weird Southwest Airlines seat saver story

I’m flying solo out of ATL on a completely full flight. I boarded in A group and got a window seat in front of the wings. …As someone walked by, they threw an iPad and a neck pillow into the two seats beside me to save them. I wasn’t able to see who it was.

The flight was getting increasingly full and people were giving me dirty looks and even saying “you can’t reserve seats” to me as they walked by. …Finally a couple approached me and I told them the same thing, that I had no idea who the items belonged to. The couple put the items in the seat back pockets and sat next to me.

Then, shortly after, the people in row across from me said “will you hand us our stuff?” They were the seat savers even after they saw and heard me asking whose stuff was in the seats.

  1. The Canadian govt keeps stealthily subsidizing Air Canada. This is just the newest way, the most obvious being restricting foreign carriers from Canada that would obliterate the trash that AC has become.

  2. Exit seats can get a little cold, compared to the rest of the plane. That can make a difference on a red eye, for example.

  3. Canada has the right idea . Throw the complaints into the dust bin . Save taxpayer money .

Israel ditto : dust bin the irrelevant student’s screeches , and get on with the business at hand .

  4. Flew AC international one time in 2018. First flight took off 28 hours late. AC is a garbage airline. Every time one of my Canadian friends brings up something about Canada they think is better I respond with how bad AC is. They agree.

  5. Navigate through all of this advertising, no they are not the best. I sit towards the back of the plane….

  6. Most government sponsored airlines lack any sense of accountability

  7. Jen is somewhat whacko on tips. $20 for street entertainers? Maybe if they have at least an hour of entertainment and have set up seats for the patrons. I used to watch the chain saw juggler at Venice Beach some of the time for free but added a dollar once in a while. Jen wasn’t there trying to drum up more on tips. The road to and from Las Vegas is often clogged so I don’t go but the tip scene is another reason to not go.

  8. From the very beginning, Canada has subsidized and coddled its transportation companies. Open and fair competition could result in Canadian companies being swallowed up by American ones. And if there’s one thing that unites Canadians, no matter what language they speak or who they vote for, it’s a dislike/mild hatred for the USA. Air Canada could probably beat passengers with meal trays and face no real consequence from the Canadian Government.

  9. Avoiding exit row seats? Good for you but thank you though …. More exit row seats for me.

  10. I used to fly in Exit Rows.
But then I realized that too often the seat itself was more shallow

I think that instead of giving more leg room by increasing pitch, instead the simply shortened the seat.

This meant that the seat would dig into my posterior thighs. Super uncomfortable!

  11. The street performers is pretty standard from what I’ve encountered there. I’ve asked plenty and $20 is what I’ve been told. It is ridiculous, but it doesn’t mean you have to participate with them if you walk by. Just don’t stop and let them do an act for you or don’t have your picture taken with them and you don’t have to worry about them hounding you for money!

  12. $20. tip for a “street performer” in Las Vegas?!? Good grief, are the “performers” doing lap dances on the street now?
