News and notes from around the interweb:
- United Airlines sees cyber attacks as their biggest threat. By the way do you even know what your VPN provider does with your data?
- Cathay Pacific is working with Airbus on a single pilot cockpit for long haul
- CLEAR now lets you upload your CDC card as a ‘vaccine passport’
- Hilton now lets guests confirm connecting rooms in advance which is huge for families.
- United Airlines will update its employee appearance standards to be more inclusive allowing this like tattoos and nose rings.
- Why Electric Planes are Coming – United, American and Virgin Atlantic all have at least conditional orders.
On connecting rooms – I wish more hotels had 3-bed rooms. The beds don’t even have to be full sized. A room with 3 twin beds doesn’t need any more square footage, and could open up a lot more use cases.
Clear allows connecting your vaccine record at a number of health providers, and allows having a verified vaccine bar code, showing where the vaccine was received and which type, and when. While the list of healthcare providers is long, providers like county health departments are less likely to be on the list. Most of the places are ones which have EHR which allow logging in to see your records. Places which support your vaccination records in MyChart are likely to be included. Whether a self-reported vaccination to your health provider will show up in MyChart and allow export to Clear would put a hole in the security, but I’m not sure if they allow that.
I tried to use the Clear vaccine app but the provider where I got vaccinated is not on their list
Surely something can be done about centralizing our vaccine records in these technologically advanced times. I know the ‘gubment’ won’t issue vaccine passports, but there has to be a resource where those of us who voluntarily want to can integrate our vaccine status, online, with international transport agencies and border control. After a couple of years of hardcore travel my CDC card is going to be pretty dogeared.
Heh – I am my own VPN provider. The logs rotate and are only used for troubleshooting. 😉
