Instant, Free Top Tier Elite Status With IHG One Rewards

Just click here to register and your status in the IHG One Rewards loyalty program will be upgraded in a matter of moments to their top tier Diamond status.

IHG is the loyalty program for Intercontinental, Kimpton, Holiday Inn, and numerous other related brands. Their Diamond status is new this year and now includes free hot breakfast, upgrades including to suites based on availability, and 100% bonus points.

  • Status will last through end of 2022
  • Stay 10 nights by December 31, 2022 to extend that status through December 31, 2023

Diamond normally requires 70 nights or 120,000 base points (and credit card points no longer count). And you won’t have to wait for your status to be upgraded, either. As it happens I check into an IHG property this afternoon. Oh, and don’t worry if you enter your IHG account number or email address and you don’t see your status instantly upgraded. Mine took two minutes.

I have to assume this was intended as a targeted offer that was rolled out without much competence. The offer doesn’t say explicitly that it is only for specific recipients. It doesn’t even say who it is intended for. And it has no controls on registration at all. What’s more the upgrade is automatic and very fast. There’s a chance, though, that status might be clawed back as a mistake.

Even if you aren’t going to stay at an IHG hotel by the end of the year, if you don’t already have top status with another chain you may be able to use this to status match to similar status in a chain you are going to stay with. Screen shot your status right away.

  1. Thanks Gary! Would this Diamond status give me free breakfast and room upgrade at both the IC in Bora Bora on reward stay?

  2. @Nivsy that was not my experience; it worked fine as Gary suggested. This may indicate the offer is being pulled or modified.

  3. @nivsy – not sure what you saw but I just clicked on link Gary provided (at 9:25 AM ET so 3 hours after you tried) and it simply asked for email address or account number then indicated I had been upgraded to Diamond. No request, or even a spot, to enter a promotion code. Suggest you try again.

  4. Anyone see where status extends through 2023 with 10 nights by end of 2022? Also, will the 10 nights include award stays?

  5. On the app, it asked me for a promo code. I went back and chose to register using my browser, it did not. I received the “upgraded to Diamond” message almost instantly.

  6. It worked for me from platinum to diamond instantly. But where does it say how many nights we need to maintain the status

  7. Gary – Do you have the terms and conditions for this offer? I have mixed IC and Staybridge nights coming up and want to make sure the Staybridge nights count. Thanks

  8. Promotion code required. I tried with both email address and the member #
using a desktop if that make any difference

  9. No workie for me at 10:30 a.m. PDT. I tried it with my email and my number and both times the site asked for a promo code. I’m a “basic” platinum.

  10. No longer works. Targeted offer only. You must have received your required promo code in an email sent to you. No promo code, no offer.

  11. Called IHG to find out why the code is invalid. Appears that it only works if you are on their lists of companies that are eligible for the automatic upgrade in status and be a full-time employee.

It was worth the call to find out why the promo code didn’t work for me. It’s all good.

  12. This is on that IHG page. Be careful.

If you are experiencing difficulties registering for a promotion, please call the IHG One Rewards Club Customer Care Center.

Many offers are only available to IHG One Rewards Club members who receive a specific, targeted communication from IHG. Successful registration does not guarantee that you will receive the points or miles offered when the offer requirements are met if you are not eligible per the offer terms and conditions. Six Continents Hotels, Inc.(SCH) and its subsidiaries and affiliates which are InterContinental Hotels Group companies (collectively IHG) reserve the right to cancel any IHG One Rewards Club membership and revoke any and all unredeemed IHG One Rewards Club points for fraud or abuse of any portion of the program per the IHG One Rewards Club membership terms and conditions.

  13. Access denied for me…

In the morning, can someone who successfully registered (i.e. before it was apparently changed around ~10 am EDT) confirm whether their status still shows as Diamond, or if it was reverted back? Curious if I missed out on something good here…

  14. @chris W it worked for me in the early morning (7am pst) and has not reverted back so far .

  15. Pure clickbait or Gary didn’t bother to register when he would have realized a PROMO CODE was REQUIRED.

    Anything for clicks.

  16. @John SAT – do you realize this is 3 weeks old? That’s why the link in this post is no longer working. It worked for many of us! Not only did I register, my account was upgraded, and i benefited from Diamond status on a check in *the same day*.

Now, I’m torn. Do I share the promo code with you that you need to enter? Or – since you’re being a jerk to me – do I just move on? I posted it the other day, buried in a different post talking about IHG… 😉

    Ok, ok. 70027

No promises it’ll work by the time you see this.

  17. Tbf I think I did it after 3 hours of it being reported here as possible. It requires a promo code even back then. Some were lucky, others, obviously, not.
