Hyatt Visa: 2 free nights at any Hyatt property, no minimum spending requirement.
Chase is introducing a $1000 minimum spend requirement (within first three months) to earn the signup bonus on their Hyatt Visa.
That new requirement is already reflected on the Chase website. But my link — which offers referral credit to me if you choose to use it — still allows you to get the card and free nights with no minimum spend required. I understand that even my link will no longer be offering that effective on Tuesday morning or earlier.
As far as spending requirements go, the new one will be modest. But if you’ve been considering the card, it will be a whole lot more convenient not to have to put $1000 on it before receiving your free nights.
I have a Hyatt Visa in my wallet, I got it when very few cards were offering no foreign currency transaction fees. And I keep the card because the annual free night (up to category 4) is worth much more to me than the $75 annual fee.
- Signup bonus: Two free nights at any Hyatt property. If you are existing Platinum Gold Passport member, you also receive two confirmed suite upgrades for use on paid stays. If you are a Diamond Gold Passport member, your two free nights will be in a suite. You can use the free nights at the Park Hyatt Maldives, Park Hyatt Tokyo, Park Hyatt Zurich, or wherever you wish. I used mine at the Grand Hyatt Singapore.
- Elite status: Cardholders receive Platinum status in the Gold Passport program as long as they have the card, primarily useful for free internet and priority to avoid lesser rooms, plus 2pm late checkout. And spending on the card helps you reach DIamond status — $20,000 generates 2 stays and 5 nights of elite credit, and spending $40,000 in a year provides an additional 3 stays and 5 nights.
- Points-earning: Triple points at Hyatt, double points on restaurant spend, airfare, and rental cars. (One point per dollar everywhere else.)
The double points on restaurants, airfare and rental cars, along with the credit towards Diamond status based on spending were just introduced last month.
It’s often the case that the links which offer some sort of credit to me are also the best available offer. When I find an offer that’s better, I always point out you should use a different link. This is one of those strange times when my link for the card actually is for a better offer than you can get otherwise.
This is a good card for folks interested in two free nights, which can be used anywhere and without capacity controls (the nights come from the same inventory as award rooms, which are supposed to be available whenever a standard room is available) and any day of the week (not just weekend nights). Those nights can be leveraged at the most expensive properties in the world, or anywhere else.
It’s a card card for folks who stay at Hyatts, I use mine for the 3 points per dollar and even outside the U.S. since there’s no foreign currency transaction fees. Though I’ve also made the case that using an American Express Business card with OPEN savings could be more rewarding given the 3% cash back rebate that OPEN provides at Hyatt.
If this card is in your plans, you may want to jump on it before even my link will require minimum spending for the bonus nights.

Thanks for the heads up. How long are the nights good for? I was going to wait until I go back to Paris or to the Maldives (first time) but that’s not until 2014.
@beachfan – valid 1 year from when you earn them.. so wouldn’t last through 2014 if you got the card now

Does that one year time period for the free night include the suite upgrades? I assume it does but thought it was worth asking.

It used to be after you did BOOK NOW on a room the next screen would show the $75 credit box. I don’t see it now. Some people said you didn’t get credit if you didn’t continue on to actually book you didn’t get the credit, but it worked for me (ie. I did NOT book room).
You say “no minimum spend” for old card. I thought it was one purchase. Tha’s what mine was.
@Carl – any purchase but no minimum, and I did try to find the $75 statement credit the same way you describe and I could not find it anymore.

Wondering if you can help me. I signed up for the card. (I applied for this card a couple of months ago but was traveling and am only now getting to my mail…) I was (am) an existing Platinum member. Looking at the materials sent to me, I do not see any mention of my two free nights, nor of the suite upgrades. Nothing regarding first purchase or anything. The only thing that is mentioned is the annual free night, in the small brochure called “Your Guide to Rewards and Benefits”. I’ve checked my account on the Gold Passport site and there is nothing there about the free nights or suite upgrades either. Can you enlighten me?
@Greg look at your account again it’s probably there under a separate tab, if you don’t see it call and ask Gold Passport because again I bet your benefits are there..
