News and notes from around the interweb:
- The most expensive airport beer in the country is at New York LaGuardia, where a single glass can cost what a case should. And that’s after the Port Authority of New York New Jersey promised cheaper beer.
$28 plus tax and tip at Newark, and the Port Authority Office of Inspector General found that 25 people actually paid $23 – $27 for a single “seasonal beer” at New York LaGuardia. So much for required ‘street pricing’.
- Last month American Airlines was fined $50 million over its wheelchair handling. They’ve been consistently the worst major carrier for this (unsurprisingly, since they’re also by far the worst with checked bag handling).
@AmericanAir this is beyond absurd and ridiculous. Boarded the plane over two hours ago and still no solution. Everyone else was allowed to deboard and since I’m in a power chair they refuse to get my wheelchair for me, instead they said they would bring it to the next plane but… pic.twitter.com/nYLvsuHz82

- Serious question, why do you do this – feet in the air in an airplane cabin?
First class doesn’t mean you have class

- Qatari Owner Of St. Regis Bal Harbour Sued By Condo Owners Over Allegedly Unsafe Conditions
- In July GHA Discovery sold points at a discount for the first time (15% off) and now they’ve brought this back through November 21.
I like discounts on hotel stays, and I love points, but I’m not a buyer because: buying these points means giving up points-earning (in this case, a 7% rebate) when spending cash; hotel stays earn credit card spending bonuses but this does not so I’m giving up 2 Chase points per dollar worth at least 3%; and you can’t spend points against prepaid rates so may pay more for the room. I think I’d need a 25% discount on points to be a buyer.
Wheel chairs are the responsibility of the airport and like handicap parking they are abused by those who do not need them making it difficult for those who do to get the services they need
There needs to be fines for the abuses.
I’m not a big alcohol drinker so a $28 beer at the airport is not big deal. But man, if you need a beer that bad you pay $28 for it? I think you need serious help.
Big the Big Apple
Don’t Mind the Maggots
Have you tried *cough* not *cough* buying *cough* overpriced shit? The ‘free market’ will sort it out.
@Tomri this wheelchair issue was not about the airline-provided wheelchair at the airport. It’s his own motorized chair they’re not bringing him, so he’s totally immobilized with no control. What a horrible feeling that must be.
If you’re spending $27 for a case of beer then you’re drinking really crappy beer.
Answering your question about the feet up in the air on a flight, it’s because the person’s brain needs more blood flow as illustrated by the fact that they’re doing this.
@ 27. beer is not so bad , considering there is a hotel in LA with an $ 18. doughnut .
At least the beer is good for your health .
Interesting that you name & blame the airport but not the merchant which actually charges the $27 for beer. That, at least, might be useful information for some readers, as well as maybe causing the merchant to reconsider.
I paid $31 for an on-mountain pint at Heavenly Ski Resort last year. I almost fell over.
