I don’t rent cars nearly as often as I used to given the ubiquity of Uber and Lyft. However I really like Silvercar and wish they were in more cities, and really like Silvercar discounts even more.
Silvercar has an all-Audi fleet and their all-inclusive model comes with free GPS, wifi, and satellite radio. You pay only actual tolls (no administrative charges) and can pay a flat $5 and they’ll refuel your car at market rate.
Out of available Silvercar discounts I normally use promo code VINFINITE when renting with Silvercar for 2 days or more. That’s the ‘Visa Infinite’ discount code.
And like the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card it also comes with primary collision when you rent cars, if you ding up the car your own insurance may not even need to know.
There’s more Silvercar discounts, for instance a 40% off discount code valid on rentals 5 days or longer, promo code WEEKLY. (HT: Slickdeals) A $49/day rental drops below $30.
And of course if you haven’t rented with Silvercar before if you enter someone’s referral code you’ll each get $25 when you complete your first rental. There are Silvercar airport locations at Austin, Chicago O’Hare, Dallas Love Field, Denver, Fort Lauderdale, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Newark, Orlando, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, San Francisco and Seattle. There are also non-airport locations in South Beach, Brooklyn (2), and Manhattan. And they’ll open San Diego, Washington DC, and two more locations in the first half of this year. While you can only book roundtrips online there’s a secret one way option as well.
Rates start in many locations at $49 a day without the Silvercar discounts, so they’re often price-competitive with midweek airport rentals from other agencies offering inferior cars and more fees.
They’ve started renting Audi Q5 crossover SUVs in addition to sedans at Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Denver, Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Francisco, Seattle, Orlando and Salt Lake City. These start at $69 per day, and will become available at other locations throughout the year.

@Gary —> I love Silvercar, and — you’re absolutely right — I wish they were in more locations. However, I stopped using them when VX severed all relationships with their partners due to the takeover with AS. That way I could get 3x points on travel, AND bonus points on VX . . .
At LAX, they’ll pick you up at curbside in front of your terminal on the Departure level, and bring you back to your terminal upon return.
Still, I need to “remember” them when renting a car these days. Thanks for the reminder.

@Stvr – me? I’m down to Executive from the Amex Plat, I haven’t rented much from National lately because I don’t rent as much as I used to. I still prefer National over Avis and Hertz generally though, though not at the top elite tier of each.

@Jason Brandt Lewis — Unless something has changed in the last few weeks, your statement needs to be amended: “At LAX, [a dingy purple parking garage bus that runs very infrequently] will pick you up at curbside in front of your terminal on the Departure level, and bring you back [very infrequently from the same offsite parking garage facility] to your terminal upon return.”
I love Silvercar (and still rent from them at LAX frequently, indeed exclusively), but the horrid LAX traffic situation and, perhaps, LAX regulations mean that their service there has declined precipitously from the days when you’d often be picked up and dropped off personally in one of the Silvercar vehicles. I’ve seen some very, very frustrated (and maybe just a bit spoiled / entitled) Silvercar customers on that bus.
@Andy —> Perhaps things have changed since my last rental with them at LAX, but when they first opened, they had you take an LAX parking shuttle bus to the “C” Lot, and they’d pick you there; then, they started picking me up curbside in an Audi.Never been picked up by a purple bus…
@Jason Brandt Lewis — Things have changed. They’ve gone through three stages. First was the LAX shuttle to the C lot. Then curbside (in a car at first; then, as their volume of customers picked up and the traffic at LAX got worse, in a Silvercar van). For the last 18 months or so, it’s been the dingy purple bus.
It’s a big step down from the previous stages and almost every other Silvercar customer I’ve overlapped with has been visibly and vocally upset with the process. Personally, I get how difficult the situation is for them at LAX, though I can’t say I like it.

The last time that we used Silvercar at LAX, October 2018, we were picked up and returned to the terminal by a Lyft driver. The service was alright. My only objection was that both Lyft cars were very dirty inside. I miss the days when Silvercar picked you up and returned you to the terminal in one of their Audi’s. However, we are still loyal to Silvercar as the Audi’s are great driving cars.
