Platinum Pro members can have choose a confirmed international upgrade, miles and other choices – and get new higher-tier oneworld alliance benefits. Executive Platinums can choose several options like miles and a club membership instead of confirmed upgrades if they’d like – and get the Platinum Pro choice, too.
American Airlines Senior Vice President Vasu Raja explained that: “it used to be that 25% of the people that sat on our airplanes were AAdvantage elites… Today that number is about 15%.”
So how many people would make top status under ‘normal’ requirements this year? Raja says “there’s about 1000 customers out there who would qualify for Executive Platinum under our old rules. 40% to 50% of those were not our customer last year, they were [elites with another carrier].”
American Airlines has added partners that make their frequent flyer program more relevant to people in some of the largest cities in the country this year. American Airlines is shrinking with a goal of at least 30% fewer management and support staff. That runs throughout the airline, including Vice Presidents and Senior Vice Presidents.
Over the past two days rumors have been swirling about which members of top leadership will depart, as the airline offers buy out packages. (At this level buy outs are richer than what’s been publicly reported for management staff.)
Very soon we’ll know which members of top management are leaving. I’ve heard whispers of top names all day.

One of the best tools in travel years ago was Travelocity Dream Maps. You’re better off jumping on this before the end of the week, when the offer becomes less generous (but still quite good).
