Airport Extortion: Taxi Driver Arrested After Charging Tourist $1,000 For 2-Minute Ride In Cancun

A Canadian tourist was charged $1,000 to transfer from terminal 4 to terminal 3 at the Cancun airport. He took a taxi, rather than the airport’s free shuttle, and the taxi driver tried to steal his luggage when the passenger protested the fare. Eventually the police got involved.

The Montreal resident was expecting to pay $5, but his credit card was overcharged by 200 times the usual amount.

Airline Gold Rush: How New Tulum Airport Could Steal 25% of Cancun’s Traffic

There’s a new airline gold rush down in Mexico, with U.S. carriers lining up to fly to the Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport near Tulum. It’s 79 miles from the current Cancun airport, Enilria writes that an aviation study finds that this new airport could compete for a full quarter of Cancun’s passengers. Already American, Delta, United, and Spirit have announced service from the airport, which is slated to open December 1 and to become available to international passengers in late March. With American’s Dallas and United’s Houston service growing to twice daily, there are a dozen flights by U.S. carriers planned for the 12 gate airport: 93% of the area’s air passengers are tourists, and the bet is that there’s a never ending supply of upper middle class Americans headed to yoga retreats. Traffic Into Cancun Airport Is So Bad Tourists Are Getting Out Of Cabs And Walking

Cancun airport is reporting a record-breaking summer. And at the same time, work is proceeding to grow infrastructure around the airport. Colosio boulevard, which enters Cancun International Airport, is seeing two hour delays at peak times (6 a.m. – 10 a.m. into the airport and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. departing it).

Tourists can be seen abandoning taxis and walking into the facility.

Planeload Of Maskless ‘Influencers’ Banned By Airline After Vaping And Drinking Their Own Alcohol

A plane filled with ‘maskless social media influencers’ was traveling from Montreal to Cancun. The group got raucous in the aisles, drinking their own alcohol and vaping against aviation regulations. The Canadian government is investigating the passengers, and Sunwing cancelled their return charter flight and banned the group, after video from inside the aircraft circulated on social media.
