American Airlines is updating its pre-arrival service in premium cross country flights – with new freshly baked on board cookies – and has two new food for sale items in coach on flights over 1300 miles.
The beloved Biscoff cookies are one of the best things about flying, at least in coach. Traditionally they come two cookies to a package. Right now, though, some American Airlines flights are getting packages with just one cookie. And the cookie itself is smaller, too.
Hilton has published the DoubleTree hotels cookie recipe. Normally more than 30 million of these cookies are baked annually. They’ve even been baked on the space station. But since you’re grounded Hilton is giving out the recipe.
American Airlines used to serve the most wonderful baked on board cookies. The whole domestic first class cabin would fill with the smell of fresh baked goodness. It was that smell, even more than the taste, which made the flight feel like home.
After US Airways management took over, and then implemented US Airways catering standards (while meeting in the middle the distance of flights that got meals) in September 2014, baked on board cookies were eliminated. They explained that since legacy US Airways aircraft had just one oven up front, it was tough for flight attendants to heat both meals and cookies at the same time.
Cranky Flier reports that United is reducing the size of its Biscoff cookies. I admit, I really love those cookies. Always have, since I first got them on a United Express Westair flight many years ago. Some cutbacks just hurt, ya know?

One of the things I love about flying Skywest, a regional carrier in the Western U.S. for both United and Delta, is that they’ve long served Biscoff cookies. The Gourmet Center in San Francisco (which sells these wonderful treats) is now offering one Delta mile per dollar spent at their online store, plus 250 miles for each order (500 miles on orders of $75 or more). This isn’t the most lucrative offer on its own terms, but for folks like me who have long considered ordering the cookies anyway this gives me a pretty good excuse.
