USA Today Upgrade Tip: Take Any Open Seat Because Flight Attendants Can’t Police It

Feb 02 2019

Christopher Elliott takes on his role as the world’s worst travel advisor and tells his audience in USA Today that they have his permission to take any empty seat in coach since flight attendants “can’t police every seat.”

By the way that’s one of his “tips for getting an upgrade.” So presumably we’re not even talking about moving between regular coach seats. Just sit in the premium seat and if questioned tell your cabin crew (and anyone they call in for reinforcements that you had Christopher Elliott’s permission.

A week ago the world learned about one of the worst airline passengers any of us has ever come across, a man who flies to Asia and consistently asks for help in the bathroom — help that he may not actually have needed.

He’s been blacklisted by the airline but media reports suggest he’s managed to circumvent the ban and buy himself another ticket on the airline. I’m skeptical.

Passengers, definitely don’t try this inflight because you don’t know how your crewmember will take it, and you could find law enforcement waiting for you when you land (if they can figure out who the perpetrator was among a plane full of passengers).

Flight Attendants Say They Don’t Want Tips – For Two Reasons

Jan 17 2019

If you buy something from a food truck and pay with a credit card, chances are you’ll be presented with a tablet to sign your name — and you’ll be given the option to tip even though there was no server or service. Many fast casual restaurants follow this approach now, too. And so does Frontier Airlines.

I wondered what other flight attendants think of the practice, and whether they’d want it to spread to their airline.

Be Careful What You Flush in the Lavatory: The Crazy Reason American Flight 20 Diverted on Christmas

lavatory
Dec 26 2018

American’s Boeing 777-300ERs have 12 lavatories. The line from one of those lavatories was clogged, and it’s a system connected to three other lavatories. That took four of the lavatories – or one third – out of commission.

Flight attendants determined that passengers congregating near the remaining lavatories was a security issue, and the aircraft was forced to divert.
