American Refuses To Honor Award Tickets On Joint Venture Partners When Exiting Routes
An American spokesperson told me they’d only honor business class awards in their original class of service if Qantas had business class award space available. Since of course they do not, American will only rebook in coach. And, “you can have your miles reinstated or rebook to travel once we begin offering service between LAX-SYD again in November.”
The notion that when American exits a market it will not honor reservations in their ticketed class of service on a joint venture partner has important implications, I think, for the notion of consumer benefit that they are claiming as they defend a government lawsuit against their JetBlue joint venture.
Internatioal Business Class Passengers Turned Away From Qantas Lounges In Australia
oneworld lounge access rules provide business class lounge access for business class passengers flying any airline in the alliance. Qantas is using first class lounges as business class lounges, but haven’t renamed those lounges as business lounges so they’re excluded. Hopefully they’ll fully re-open lounges as their international route network restarts – and as partner airlines rebuild their Australia schedules as well.
In Big Change, Qantas Will Bring Back Iconic Airbus A380 In Just Two Weeks
The pandemic kept kept much of Qantas grounded. Their Airbus A380 wasn’t supposed to return until June 2023 “at the earliest.” But the Australian government allowing its citizens to again leave the country, and residents to return, led to a re-start of the airline’s international route network and a planned return of the world’s largest passenger jet on the Los Angeles – Sydney route in July 2022. And then moved the re-introduction date up to March.
Now, because of increased coronavirus precautions rather than re-opening, the airline will again move up the A380 jumbo jet’s return to just two weeks from now on January 11.
Qantas Will Use Airbus A380s To Offer Frequent Flyer Award Seats Only
A program might charter a flight or four, but not enough capacity to really give members choice. Still, it’s a great stunt to highlight the efforts a program is going to for members. And with limited capacity these flights can prove popular.
What’s more, the economics can even work. These flights can be profitable.
Tons Of Business Class Award Seats To Australia Using Chase/Amex/Capital One Points
Qantas announced the release of ‘millions’ of award seats as Australia re-opens. So far Australians are expected to be able to leave their country next month (and return!) with rules for what they must do on arrival varying by state. There’s no announced timeline for visitors to come to Australia, but there’s reason to be hopeful.
Qantas A380s Returning To Service Next Year!
Australia kept the virus at bay through much of the pandemic, but is seeing more spread than at any time in the past 18 months. They’re in lockdown, and behind most of the West in vaccinations. Australians can’t leave the country, and few residents can even enter. The A380 wasn’t supposed to fly again until mid-2023 ‘at the earliest.’
So who had the Qantas A380 returning to Los Angeles in July on their pandemic aviation bingo card?
Aussies Can Earn 50,000 Miles On A Personal Loan, And It’s Actually A Pretty Good Deal
A fintech in Australia is offering up to 50,000 Qantas points for a personal loan with no prepayment penalty. They promise lower rates than competitors and some consumers won’t even face any fees.
Qantas Infiltrated By Organized Crime According To Leaked Government Report
An Australian government intelligence operation has determined that Qantas has been infiltrated by organized crime with up to 150 employees linked to criminal gangs in an effort to smuggle drugs into the country, and for other nefarious purposes.
Pilot Sues For Stress After Plane Loses An Engine, Lands Safely
The pilot didn’t even need to make an emergency landing or divert, but they’re suing Qantas for the stress of losing an engine. The airline though says the engine failure isn’t their fault, and isn’t that why they have pilots in the first place?
