Through Friday Only: Redeem Delta Miles at 2 Cents Apiece for Paid Travel

Delta Vacations will let you redeem SkyMiles at twice the usual value through Friday August 30 at 11:59 p.m.

As long as you book a two night hotel stay as part of your trip you can get two cents apiece for Delta miles. With most any other currency that wouldn’t excite me, and you can do better using Delta miles for international business class award tickets especially on partners, but it’s increasingly hard to get better than 1.1 – 1.3 cents apiece for your Delta miles so this is greater value than you’ll ordinarily receive for those points.

Airline tickets purchased this way will earn miles though of course hotel nights are being booked through a third party so you won’t generally earn hotel points, elite stay credit, or receive elite benefits.

Key Details:

  • Book by August 30
  • Include minimum 2 night hotel stay with a flight
  • Redeem up to 999,999 miles
  • Cancelled trips don’t refund to SkyMiles account (you receive Delta Vacations credit)

American Express Membership Rewards points transfer to Delta. I try to do better than two cents apiece with my Amex points, however you’ll get more value through this promotion than booking paid travel through Membership Rewards as opposed to transferring Amex points to airlines for redemptions.

  1. I’m confused. How does a SkyMiles redemption earn SkyMiles? I thought one only earned SkyMiles on cash fares. Am I missing something?

  2. @Jeff it’s treated as a revenue booking when you book through Delta Vacations (the same as if you were booking through any other OTA).

  3. Gary.

Yes, but some of those 2 cents per mile awards can be purchased for a penny a point.

example – NYC/LAS can be purchased for $250 ish R/T If I use miles, that’s the equivalent of $500 dollars for a 25,000 mile ticket.

I also checked hotels in LAS. Smart buyers can purchase a nice hotel for $100 – $150 per night. The hotels they show are over priced.

This Delta ‘deal’ works if you have lots of miles to burn, otherwise buyer beware.

I also checked ATL. That’s ‘overpriced; too!
