News and notes from around the interweb:
- U.S. customs officer steals stacks of cash from private jet passenger
Timothy was seen in the video taking a stack of cash from the passenger for inspection and starting to count it. Three stacks of bills were separated from the rest, placed to one side, and then never returned to the victim, according to a criminal complaint.
Prosecutors allege Timothy placed 22 $100 bills to one side and then placed a customs declaration form on top in an attempt to conceal the theft.

- In December 2020 Marriott devalued point redemption for Homes & Villas stays from 7/10ths of a cent to 6/10ths of a cent. Now they’ve further devalued by one basis point.
- Passengers in the American Airlines D concourse in Miami have been walking up to a mile between gates when the terminal train was shut down for maintenance in September. In a matter of “weeks” it should come back online.
⚠️ #TravelAdvisory Update (09/21/23) ⚠️
The Concourse D Skytrain is out of service for maintenance. A courtesy shuttle service is available from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience. @AmericanAir pic.twitter.com/zLIQOTonBY— Miami Int'l Airport (@iflymia) September 21, 2023
- Incremental renovations that don’t tell a hotel’s story failing to yield higher room rates:
In 2005 my parents bought a motel.
It had 22" tube tvs, flowery comforters, you get the drift.
They knew it was dated, so they got to work.
Each year they would pile profits into 1 major project.
27" flat screen CRTs -> instant hit!
New carpet -> 10x better

@Gary … The quote : “What Fresh Hell is This?” , ought to be attributed to Dorothy Parker , ( who famously said it ) . It is appropriate for almost all air travel these days .
US Customs is such an incredibly unprofessional organization, they just never cease to amaze and impress with ever lower standards. Went through Terminal 8 at JFK – 7:00 a.m. on 1/10 – and witnessed an insane Officer in full battle regalia screaming, cursing, and threatening to “put them on the ground in handcuffs” at the top of his lungs at an elderly Chinese couple who clearly didn’t understand English, because they were standing at the exit door. Made me completely ashamed of my country. Welcome to the USA indeed.
I have never had a problem with CBP officers but it is too bad that a photo of William Joseph Timothy is not available to help people recall if they went through his station.
Had they changed the name to the Delta Hotel, Pritesh’s parents could have charged premium prices and quickly recouped their investment.
