News and notes from around the interweb:
- Air India cabin crew implements death sentence against a cockroach, “hanged..untill death” on Delhi – Dubai flight.
An entry in Air India’s cabin defect log recorded that a live cockroach was discovered by a passenger. The rectification note wryly mentioned that the matter was dealt with… conclusively.

- Right now Rakuten has its best-ever new member offer. First-time Rakuten shopping portal users get $50 (or 5,000 Amex points) for spending $50 at any of its merchants. The easy, quick win before this offer is just to go to GiftCards.com through the portal and buy a $50 gift card for Uber, DoorDash, Southwest Airlines or Delta. You get $50 or equivalent points back, making this a free $50 (or better, since the points are worth more than $50).
- Guests keep showing up at this Marriott only to find that it hasn’t opened yet. They get emails telling them to do app check-in, even. This has been going on for weeks. Marriott does nothing, it seems.
Had a reservation at the new Towneplace Suites Murfreesboro, TN – checking in tonight for 4 nights. I’ve been getting emails and even checked in on the app yesterday, when we arrived tonight it was still under construction!!
The two marriotts nearby said they didn’t have room for us, so we had to drive 13 miles away for another room at 11:30pm (after flying across the country). We called the 1800 number, he rebooked us in a nearby hotel tomorrow for 3 nights. I had to ask what they would do for us due to huge inconvenience, he said he could put in a request to match the price of our original room and give us 10k points. We have 95 stays so far this year and titanium status, I am shocked that nobody reached out to let us know if the hotel wasn’t even open. Another family arrived after us who also had a reservation. Then the security guard came out and said this has been happening to guests for at least the last 3 days!
- Nepalese Prime Minister “is fully committed to providing security for the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Kathmandu”
- Delta launching Riyadh flights in Octoer 2026 oddly the release does not mention their partnership with Riyadh Air.

Someone rubbed the CLT the wrong way again…
Can anybody translate what the FA is saying? I only speak English.
I just got back from Kathmandu and although the HR is closed, the Hyatt Centric remains open. While smaller, it is new, very comfortable, and we had excellent service.
@H2oman — Nice ‘speak English!’ …Karen.
@Doug — Wow, bold of you to go there these days. I presume you did not stay at the Hilton… How’s everything else in Nepal, post-uprising? Reminds me of Colombo, following the ousting of the Rajapaksa. At least they could flee to the Maldives… Deputy PM & Finance Minister Paudel did not seem as lucky.
Enjoyed the cockroach solution. As a retired mechanic and FE I have entered many innovative corrective actions in the aircraft logbook also.
