Singapore Airlines no longer offers its Airbus A380 Suites on flights from the United States. That’s a shame because it’s one of the best products in the world.
And they haven’t made it easy to book mileage awards on the product, either. You generally need to use their own KrisFlyer miles, and even then it’s tough – often being required to ‘waitlist’ for an award at high mileage levels (and waitlists may not clear, even if a flight doesn’t sell out).
In the past if you’ve wanted to try the product, your best bet has been on the Singapore – Shanghai and Singapore – Mumbai routes. The A380 hasn’t been flying to Shanghai.
What’s interesting, though, is that for about 5 weeks next year it’s scheduled to fly to Hong Kong, and it should be possible to redeem miles for first (and business) class on the flight.
From June 21 to July 25, 2026 it is scheduled to operate:
- Singapore – Hong Kong, 9:50 a.m. – 1:55 p.m., SQ892
Hong Kong – Singapore, 3:40 p.m. – 7:25 p.m., SQ893
This is a four hour flight, so there’s no caviar service, no amenity kits, and no pajamas. But you get full meal service (including full ‘Book the Cook’ options), access to The Private Room in Singapore as well as first class check-in there (for SQ892), and the onboard experience with separate seat and bed – and a center divider that goes down to allow for true double beds for couples traveling together in capable seats as well.
Saver awards cost 45,000 Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer miles one way for suites class. That’s largely only on waitlist. Advantage awards are more available and cost 73,000 miles one-way. That’s not nothing, but Singapore’s miles are easy to come by since they’re a transfer partner of Chase, American Express, Citibank and Capital One and this is a bucket list item for many.
Of course if you’re just trying to put together an award involving Southeast Asia, this is a good flight to include in business class as well since it’s Singapore’s latest (2017) business offering.
Much like some flyers will chase Emirates on Bangkok – Hong Kong to get a taste of their first class suites at a reasonable cash cost, this could be an opportunity for some of you.

Nice find, Gary. I’m with you that I also wish SQ would bring back its a380 for the JFK-FRA-SIN route. The 773 is just not as ‘exciting,’ and unless there’s a deal, it’s better to just take the nonstop JFK or EWR to SIN on the a359ULR.
