Starwood One Free Resort Night for Every Three Stays Between May 1 and July 31

Every three stays at any Starwood property between May 1 and July 31 will earn a free night redeemable at any Starwood resort with standard rooms which is in categories 1 through 6, plus the St. Regis Punta Mita which is category 7.

One of my real Starwood pet peeves is that ‘all suite’ hotels, though not including Sheraton Suites properties oddly enough, cost double points to redeem. Even though they draw their high room rates which justify their category assignment by virtue of the room types they offer in the first place, so members get penalized twice when it comes to redemption — the higher points price because it’s an expensive hotel, and then double the points because the rooms are all suites, which is why it is so expensive in the first place.

And those limited number of resorts that are category 6 or below are excluded from this offer, not a huge deal, this is basically saying you get the equivalent of a category 6 redemption night at a resort for every three stays, but you can’t go to those properties that charge double points.

It’s a pretty nice deal for folks staying at Starwood properties, three one-night stays at a $60 Four Points can earn a free night at a $500 resort. There’s no limit to the number of free nights you can earn (other than there presumably being a maximum number of stays that can be done during the three month promotion period!) and free nights will be valid through December 21, 2011.

Registration will be required, the registration site isn’t functioning yet as of this writing but is supposed to be working later today. Similarly, the list of resorts where you can use your free nights is apparently not yet live yet, but encompasses 200 properties at the category 1 through 6 levels.

A really great offer, wish that as in the past the free nights were redeemable more broadly than at resort properties but this presumably focuses the promo on earning from business stays and redeeming for leisure. But it’s high value, and great to see category 6 properties included. Seeing free nights offers return, and not just at the Best Westerns of the world, is a good sign and perhaps will encourage Hyatt to bring back Faster Free nights.
