Back in December 2011 I flagged an opportunity to get instant Gold Hilton HHonors status for free. It was an offer meant for Visa Infinite cardholders, but anyone could sign up.
Some Visa Infinite numbers stopped working, while others remained functional.
The offer was still available come March of 2012.
Every time Hilton would tweak the signup process, commenters here would figure out how to get it to work again.
The offer was still alive come mid-year.
Finally, it was pulled. Some people who used the offer to signup for instant status had that still removed, while others got to keep it. Many who used the free Gold signup to get status have since had their status lapse (although certainly not everyone has).
I consider Hilton Gold to be the best HHonors status level (better than Diamond on an opportunity cost basis).
And I’ve recommended the Hilton HHonors Reserve Card as the simplest way to get and keep that status.
I’m not a huge fan of Hilton, especially since big devaluation in March. But I can’t stay at Hyatt or even Starwood every time, the footprints of those better programs just aren’t big enough. They don’t have properties everywhere I need to stay. So Hilton has been my ‘backup program’. And it’s great to have some kind of status there as a result.
Today Points to Be Made flags a live offer for free Hilton Gold. It’s aimed at Visa Infinite cardholders with accounts addresses in Austria, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, France, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden and Turkey.
Here’s the signup link. The offer is supposed to be active through March 31, with status then which should last through April 2015.
Some may choose to enter a Visa Infiniate account number, whether they have one or not. And they may set their account address to a qualifying country. They may or may not lose the free status if they do. Or they can go the easy route.

Why not just do VIP? Stay 4 times get gold. Or get the credit card?
It may be for the better that the link doesn’t work. I think Hilton cracked down on the Australian trick after too many people did it. Being featured here in this high traffic blog, I’m pretty sure they would have yanked the status from the folks who signed up.
Sigh – remember there’s only an ‘easy’ credit card route for US customers. Ironic given you only consider it a backup programme, yet for many in Europe it’s their main programme given the small SPG/Hyatt footprint here (at least of anything semi-reasonably priced)
