Cathay Pacific will start Boston – Hong Kong service in May of next year.
This is exciting because Cathay Pacific is my overall favorite airline, and their Hong Kong – New York JFK service is my favorite flight in the world.
When I first saw the news I thought it would be like the Newark and Toronto, with three classes of service — Business, Premium Economy, and Economy.
Instead it’s like New York JFK, Chicago O’Hare, Los Angeles, and San Francisco with 4 classes of services — the three above plus a first class.
The plane, a Boeing 777-300ER, will carry 275 passengers and offer first class, business class, premium economy, and economy cabins.
Here’s the schedule:
The 16-hour Hong Kong flight is scheduled to run four days a week, leaving Boston on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. It departs Hong Kong on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
In the summer, the flights will leave Boston at 1:45 a.m. and arrive in Hong Kong at 5:35 a.m. the following day, according to MassPort. The return trips will leave Hong Kong at 6 p.m. and arrive in Boston at 9:30 p.m. Flight times will vary slightly in the winter.
The goal is to grow the flight to daily.
More flights, more seats, more opportunities for using American miles especially for flights to Asia.

Great news for us BOS fliers! I have flown CX a few times, first and business, and will again in the next year or so. Family trip coming up and this fits nicely. Now we have to hope the award space opens up!

The departure/ arrival times for BOS-HKG look pretty brutal even if you are a champion airplane sleeper.

Great to see BOS-HKG, finally. Late departure, in line with other CX departures/arrivals. Ironic, BOS-NRT leaves in late morning/noon. LOL.
BA refurbished their crummy lounge in Terminal 5—-still rather crummy. Would like CX/JL to build their own to share.
Oh yeah, at BOS….it’s one of the only places that customs agents wait at the airplane door before boarding. Hi guys & gals!
