Southeast Asia is on deep discount sale from the US, using China Eastern and for a little more Air China.
The cheapest fare is to Manila in the Philippines. You can fly New York to Phuket, Thailand for ~ $561. And you can fly to Bali for $601. Most fares are available right away through November, and again in February and March.

Like 16 years ago i flew china eastern from thailand to new york in economy. Easily the kost painful long haul i have ever done. Dont know if the improved since then but it took me weeks to recover after that cattle flight.
Gary, have you ever flown China Eastern? Google the reviews and you will find person after person saying it was the worst flight they have ever flown …… ever! Also, in a ranking of the top 100 airlines in the world, it ranks 79, however that is up from 85 last year ——- so maybe they are improving.

@Gary, so you have flown it and I have not, could you please give me your thoughts, review, etc — especially the JFK to PVG, and then PVG to BKK if you’ve done either of those. I’ve been avoiding them due to the reviews– even thought I’m a DL Diamond and try to fly SkyTeam. Thanks.
It’s long haul coach, and not on Singapore Airlines. That’s going to be miserable in my opinion whether on China Eastern or Lufthansa. (I’ve flown China Eastern business.)
