Like last year and in 2015, Hyatt is offering Hyatt Credit Card cardmembers a rebate on points redeemed between June 1 and September 5.
Members who have the card and use their points for stays (free night awards as well as cash and points awards) between June 1 and September 5 will receive 10% of their points back after the stay. The 10% rebate also applies to redemptions for room upgrades, dining, and spa services.
Registration is required by June 30 (there’s no reason not to just do it now). They promise rebates will post 6-8 weeks after redemption, however in the past they’ve posted more quickly than that for me.
Park Hyatt Sydney
Crucially you do not have to have had the Hyatt Credit Card prior to the start of the promotion to register and become eligible, if you get the card prior to registration cut-off and register you’ll still be eligible for the rebate. And pre-existing award reservations count for this promotion, there’s no need to cancel and rebook.
This offer makes transfers to Hyatt — already the best hotel partner use of Ultimate Rewards points — an even better use of your Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Ink Business Preferred Credit Card, and other eligible Chase card points.
Park Hyatt Hadahaa Maldives
I don’t actually major award stays to make over the next few months, but at the margin this offer will:
- Tip the scales towards cash and points where available on my paid bookings, since those are even a bit cheaper than usual. Of course I’m trying to book cash and points for most non-work category 2 through 6 stays anyway.
- Encourage me to gift some award nights during the promotion period, considering Hyatt’s benefit where top tier elites booking awards for friends gift their status for the stay to those friends.
Even with this rebate remember that it’s never a good idea to spend your points in-hotel on dining or spa. And Avis certificate redemptions and transfers to airline miles aren’t eligible for the rebate.
Terms and conditions:
The promotion is valid only for Hyatt Credit Cardmembers in good standing who receive this promotion offer from Hyatt and register for the promotion between 5/23/2017 and 6/30/2017. To qualify for this bonus offer, account must be open and not in default at the time of fulfillment. Only points redeemed between 6/1/2017 and 9/5/2017 will be eligible for this promotion. If a redemption is connected to a stay, the entire stay must be completed by 9/5/2017. You will receive 10% Bonus Points back on the World of Hyatt points you redeem for award stays, points + cash, suite upgrades, dining and spa services during this period. Points redeemed for Avis car rental certificates or points transferred to airline partners are not eligible for this promotion. Please allow 6-8 weeks after your point redemption has been completed for your Bonus Points to be loaded into your World of Hyatt account.
Hyatt is wholly responsible for the provision of or failure to provide the stated benefits and services. Bonus points will post directly to your World of Hyatt account and will not appear on your credit card statement.
Hyatt reserves the right to alter or withdraw this promotion with a suitable substitute offer of equal value (if legally required) at any time due to actual circumstances. This promotion is subject to the terms and conditions of World of Hyatt available at worldofhyatt.com/terms
Will this work for reservations under an authorized user?
Will this work for reservations already made, or do I have to cancel them and redo the reservations?
If i already have a upcoming stay booked with points for June, does it mean i have cancelled and rebook?
Ruh Roh, this makes it seem like WOH use is down and they’re looking for ways to push customer use of the CC, gotta drum up business somehow!
@Robert – except that they made the same offer last year before World of Hyatt, and the year before the rebate was 20%. So I don’t think this promo suggests that conclusion.
@J – no. explicitly no.
@c – will work for existing reservations
Very unfortunate that this does not work for existing reservations. Just makes more work for everyone to cancel and rebook. I understand they want to invcentivize new bookings but its not the same as paid travel. I have 2 that I will have to rebook now.
Does this promo apply to Guest of Honor bookings? I recall a comment in Flyertalk where it mentioned GoH bookings as excluded. Did anyone get a rebate from a GoH bookings last year?
Gary,
Are you sure already booked reservations count? The rules state only points redeemed between 6/1/17 and 9/5/17 count”. I took that to mean if points were taken from your account before 6/1/17 they would not count. Did management tell you differently?
Thank you,
Theresa
Same question as Ken… anyone????
@Theresa
Hyatt has a weird system quirk when it comes to the redemption date of points. When you first make the reservation, the points are deducted and it shows the “Award Redeemed” date as the date of booking. Later, during the actual stay, the “Award Redeemed” date changes to the last day of the stay. So I’m confident that if it says “points redeemed between 6/1/17 and 9/5/17 count” that refers to the final date in the Hyatt system, regardless of when it was booked.
@Robert
Ruh-roh, making smarmy uninformed hipster comments to sound clever on blogs must mean Mom’s tolerance of you living in her basement is down. But gotta drum up attention somehow !
Hi Gary – If you have a stay booked from May 31 to June 6, would you get the 10% back on the points for 5 of the 6 nights or does in not qualify since the start of the stay is before the start of the promo?
@Greekquentflyer – Not per the T&C but a guess, Hyatt’s systems have generally been based on date of checkout so I think in practice you might actually get the full stay rebate ..
My concern is the same as Theresa’s re: redemption date. Also, like Greekquentflyer I am disappointed that the T&Cs exclude stays that are partially within the promo period, but it’s nice to know what Gary wrote about “date of checkout.” Greekquentflyer, please let us know after your stay if it works that way.
