American Rolling Out New Sleep Products December 1

American will be introducing Casper mattress pads, duvets, pillots, blankets, lumbar pillows, pajamas and slippers.

New comfort amenities aren’t limited to long haul international. They’ll be introduced to premium transcon business and first class routes and also premium economy as well.

They’ve already been tested, apparently, on the Los Angeles – Auckland route though I wasn’t aware of this. Los Angeles – Auckland, Sydney, and Hong Kong along with Dallas – Hong Kong have been premium roues where business class has received elevated amenities including pajamas over the past couple of years.

Specific routes where some elements of the new offerings will be available beyond transatlantic, transpacific, deep South America and the New York – Los Angeles and San Francisco premium markets include:

  • Boston – Los Angeles
  • New York JFK – Seattle
  • Miami – Seattle and San Francisco
  • Hawaii
  • US – Northern South America including Bogata, Guayaquil, Caracas, Maracaibo, and more

I’ll be asking questions about which items are offered at which flights and in which classes of service shortly.

Update: here’s how the new products will be divvied out by route.

Long haul first class

Premium transcon first class

International business class to the three premium destinations

Business class for non-premium Pacific destinations

Long haul and premium transcon business class

Premium economy

  1. So they’re copying United and Delta. Except Delta and United both have better duvets. Also, unlike United, the amenities are much more limited whereas United makes them available on any route over certain duration.

And how do they clean mattress pads? What’s to stop you from getting a pad that someone urinated on because they peed their pants?

  2. @FNT Delda diamond: How can you say DL and UA have better duvets without having actually tried the AA duvets? Just from the look of it, it looks pretty decent.

However I agree it would be better for consistency if they just had the same offering. Most of my flying on AA is in transcon and LATAM/Atlantic business and it’s still a duvet and a pillow. Big deal. But hopefully this duvet is an improvement over the current one. Day blanket and lumbar pillow look awesome though.

  3. Wait, so we’re supposed to be happy to get a duvet and pillow on a $4000+ international business class flight to Europe? It’s something new to get pajamas and a mat on first class to Europe? These have always been the case, what am I missing?
