  1. Wow I almost wonder if the marketing info they’ll get from that is worth my 100 points, but in this age, we pretty much just hand stuff over.

  2. @JJ – Just decouple your accounts immediately if you’re concerned. Most marketing info, however, is just used to target ads you’ll be seeing anyway more effectively.

  3. The terms say that points expire if you don’t take a paid trip within 36 months, but I’m wondering if that’s just sloppy wording and that in reality any posted points will extend expiration. Does anyone know with certainty? (For example, someone with points more than three years old who hasn’t taken a paid trip but has had bonuses post.)

  4. @Mooper – Amtrak points expire if a paid trip is not taken within 36 months. The only way around this is to hold an Amtrak Guest Rewards Mastercard. Point activity alone does not extend expiration.

  5. In my experience the terms are ALMOST correct, it does take credit card or train activity to extend the life of an account, but they also aren’t quick on the dime to expire miles either i’ve seen it take over 4 years rather than 3
