News and notes from around the interweb:
- Airlines seriously need to stop doing this – end the madness of making customers gate check bags when there’s plenty of overhead bin space remaining – but here the passenger learns why $1,500 carry-on bags aren’t a great idea:
@AmericanAir fire the woman working at gate 4 at the Palm Springs airport yesterday. She was extremely rude and made me check my carry on luggage even though the flight was not full. My $1,500 bag is now damaged for no reason. The overhead bins were empty when I boarded. pic.twitter.com/CGQmSuutnB

- Many cities pay the Michelin guide to rate their restaurants. Atlanta says this works out well for them.
- There’s no excuse for men’s toes on an airplane.
Sock removal is a no-no, but what about sandals? Are they they a loophole?
byu/kestrelrogue inamericanairlines - Wow, how did I not see this when it happened?
- Someone hit a $1.4 million jackpot at the Las Vegas airport.
Someone won $1,357,950 while waiting for their flight at the airport yesterday.

Overheard on a flight
Flight attendant: "Do you want overnight oats?"
Passenger: "Why are you selling us food from last night?"— Keith Nelson Jr (@JusAire) April 23, 2024
I went to the tweet. There are two or three fake AA accounts trying to connect with her
If you’re flying with designer luggage but late-group boarding, you should really reevaluate some decisions in your life.
The luggage story is a good advert for Briggs & Riley and their guarantee 🙂
Charging tourists more than locals: People are ready to spend more on vacation. Why not take advantage of that and charge more? Disneyland has been doing this for years: people with Southern California zip codes can get lower admission prices than if you’re from elsewhere. If you want a cheaper vacation, choose a place that is less crowded and trendy.
Was the wrecked bag a metal suitcase that cost $1500?
Never been to Cancun, but places like Mexico City and San Miguel de Allende were fantastic. Safe, affordable, beautiful, historic, great weather, you name it. I can see why number of US immigrants to Mexico is going up while Mexican immigrants to US is going down.
Charging foreigners a lot more (not just tourists) is common in Southeast Asia.
Best comment yet.

A beat up suitcase is a badge of honor.
“There’s no excuse for men’s toes on an airplane.”
You obviously do not do much island hopping in the tropics Gary…
@Dan, I absolutely love your response “If you’re flying with designer luggage but late-group boarding, you should really reevaluate some decisions in your life.”
Wise words indeed!
Luxury bag entitlement girl needs to check herself. The bag was probably a fake, and too big for overhead anyway, and which part of “follow the directions of airline staff” did she think she was too special to have apply on her contract for carriage? That gets a STFU and lifetime ban. With a commendation noted in the files for the alert gate team that caught her attempted criminal non-compliance.
Got my Rimowa suitcase & LV backpack – Boarding Group 6 and headed to seat 32E
Wow! Travels commercial with a $1500 carry on bag??
those toes don’t seem to be encroaching on the arm rest or protruding into the front passenger’s space. they are quite close…but unless you have your arm all the way back…you won’t be touched. not ideal, but legroom on planes is a joke.
Flip flops are really useful when the aircraft has made an off-airport landing and you have to evacuate through a field of broken metal.
Fake handbags on a fake airline: strong independent modern women never are happy……
