4 Ways To Accelerate Earning A Southwest Airlines Companion Pass (New Promotion)

So this is a little bit weird. Southwest Airlines is offering four ways to accelerate earning of a Companion Pass, yet advertises that the promotion offers just three ways. Still, you will want to register either way.

Between September 1 and November 30, 2023 you can:

  1. Earn 2X credit towards companion pass on flights. You have to register, book, and fly, during the promotion period.

  2. Earn 3x credit towards companion pass on bookings through business channels. “SWABIZ.com, GDS, or SPS”

  3. Double credit from co-brand credit card purchases. Accelerate credit from card spend.

  4. Earn credit from Rapid Rewards redemption travel. Each flight counts as a companion pass-qualifying segment.

Existing reservations do not count. You can cancel and rebook during the promotion period (after registering) though price may have changed.

Double points are posted within 72 hour of travel completion. Flight segments from award travel are posted within 10 days of travel. Bonus Companion Pass qualifying points from card spend will be deposited within 4 weeks after the end of your statement period, and by December 30 for November purchases.

This is yet another promotion which suggests fall travel is down.

My current companion pass, earned in January 2022, runs through December 2023. I buy a ticket for myself, my wife is my companion (so most trips cost us just TSA fees for her travel) and then I redeem Rapid Rewards points for my daughter’s seat.

If you live in a big Southwest city as I do (they’re the largest carrier in Austin) this may be a lucrative offer.

  1. Hi Gary!

What’s the earning rate for Companion Pass points when booking with points? Is it based on the amount of points I would have earned if I had paid cash for the trip? I have a trip coming up which cost about 33,000 points (fare is $459 and earns 3,236 points)…
