Hilton HHonors is recategorizing several hotels acros their reward redemption categories and has a full list of hotels that are changing (.pdf).
Overall, 330 hotels are going up a category and 117 are going down, representing a small fraction of hotels in their portfolio and with changes disproportionately concentrated in the Hampton Inn brand.
Changes don’t go into effect until April 30, so you have an opportunity to make future reservations at the current category pricing until then.

Hilton really wants to drive people away.
Mike, Dont know why you say that? Values go up. Its a fact, unless we are in a deep depression the cost of rooms and the commensurate point value will continue to rise. Also as more people collect points in general the points become less valuable. A lesson that can be highlighted the the US’s own fiat currency.

While I don’t really see anything particularly worrisome here, I always have to laugh when I see Category 6 Hampton Inns. I could maybe understand this in NYC (though I’d stay somewhere else) but Hershey PA or Gatlinburg seems a little bit out of line.
Hilton London Olympia at category 7 is laughable.
No different than Marriott or SPG earlier this year, a whole lot more are going up than going down. Another reason not to hold on to too many points and earn-to-burn as much as you can.

The big difference is Hilton has instituted premium pricing where they often charge huge multiples of the regular redemption rate.
This will make not just a category change in points but 3x the change due to the mulitples they use for premium rooms.
