5000 Free Singapore Airlines Miles Just for Registering (Attention United MileagePlus Refugees!)

Singapore Airlines is offering 5000 miles just for joining their KrisFlyer program and another 5000 miles if you credit a Singapore Airlines flight to the program by September 30.

The signup bonus offer if valid through March 31 and requires registering with an Australian address. This is of unique interest to me since I have family in Australia and have been traveling there for better than 25 years. I was just there, and will be back this month. Of course, I’m already a KrisFlyer member.

To take advantage of the offer, open an account and enter promo code KFACQPU (the box to do so is in the ‘communications preferences’ section fo the form).

Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer is a very interesting program to me for several reasons:

  1. They are a points transfer partner of Chase Ultimate Rewards, American Express Membership Rewards, Citi ThankYou Rewards, and Starwood Preferred Guest — so it’s easy to add to your account.
  2. They give their own members access to very good premium cabin award availability, while members of other Star Alliance programs don’t really get access to long haul business and first class award space on the airline.

  3. They give full mileage credit for paid United flights, regardless of fare. That makes them an intriguing place to credit United flights given the new revenue-based MileagePlus system.

The downside to the program of course is that miles expire after 3 years. Earn 5000 miles today, and those miles will expire if unused no matter what other activity you have in your account. (Miles can be extended briefly for a fee, but don’t get there, use the miles — topping of your account as needed from other transferable points programs.)

Here are the terms of the offer:

This promotion is valid for enrolments in Australia from 4 March 2015 to 31 March 2015 inclusive and for the first trip booked travel must commence from Australia between 4 March 2015 and 30 September 2015 inclusive and valid for return trips only. Eligible Cabin Classes: First /Suites Classes; R,F,A; Business Classes; Z,C,J,U,D; Premium Economy Classes; S,T,P and Economy Classes: Y,B,E,M,H,W,N,V. Comments

  1. You do so many helpful things.

Tell us about credit cards with a great signup bonus.

Tell us about a great hotel in an area we might visit.

Tell us about a great experience on an airline to get us to that hotel.

But PLEASE stop encouraging people to lie. And you are aware of this because you intentionally did NOT say “5000 Free Singapore Miles (FOR AUSTRAILIAN RESIDENTS ONLY).

Because if you had, you know that 99% of us would have never bothered reading this blog posting in the first place.

  2. I would imagine a few readers live in Australia and can take advantage of this honestly. I agree with Marcello that tricks that require lying about residency aren’t of interest.

  3. A certain percentage of readers would simply respond that the airline, hotel, etc. marketing departments all read these blogs so it is up to them to correct mistakes or “loopholes”. Really? And none of us has any personal responsibility? Fine. So you just “temporarily” lived in Denmark and today you “temporarily” have a residence in Austrailia. My hope is that at some point you might at least consider the possibility of being “temporarily” honest as well.

  4. I too was excited about 5K SQ miles. Then I read the post and found out I don’t qualify because 1) I don’t live in Oz, and don’t want to lie about it 2) I’m already a SQ member. So much ado about nothing, as has become commonplace here lately.

Proper title: 5K miles for Aussies who aren’t yet SQ members. Which would save all the rest of us the time of reading a useless post.

  5. Well I followed the link and gave over all my info and then once I didn’t get the miles I went back and read the article closer and saw the whole austalia requirement. That really should have been in the headline because I would not have signed up otherwise or even have clicked on the article to begin with.

  6. What the hell is wrong with some of you people? Are you really that upset that you spent a minute or so reading a blog post that wasn’t terribly useful? Seriously?

And for anyone accusing Gary of tolerating fraud – he says in the 2nd paragraph that you need an Australian address.

You guys need Valium. Lots of Valium.

  7. Brain L., even occasional readers of this blog know precisely why the post was titled in this manner. Click. Bait.

  8. @Pete – What does that have to do with anything? While it may be click bait, you probably spent about a minute or so reading it.

    @Jake – You didn’t read the 2nd paragraph. That’s your fault, not Gary’s.

  9. I signed up yesterday 3/4/15 with an American address and received my 5,000 miles today.

    You currently have 5,000 miles

  10. @Robert “Proper title: 5K miles for Aussies who aren’t yet SQ members. Which would save all the rest of us the time of reading a useless post.”

Yeah so its all about you, I’m pretty sure Gary would be quite happy if the self entitled like yourself just stop reading his blog if your expectation is that Gary words his titles just to suit you.

For the rest of us (and yes, I am an Australian resident) I’m happy to read the blog even though I know many of the posts wont be useful to me and I have no expectation that the most important thing to Gary is that he meets my needs only.

  11. im an australian, but when i signed up, i didn’t receive the points?
    Any suggestions?
