Chase Opening First Exclusive Airport Space For Sapphire Reserve Cardmembers In Austin

Last month I broke the news, based on an Austin city permit that Chase would be opening a space in the Austin airport. Then I shared further details that it would be an indoor-outdoor space next to the Delta Sky Club taking over the public outdoor deck, opening in March and likely offering grab and go food.

Chase is now offering more details on the space. The “Sapphire Terrace” will open March 20.

  • Exclusive for Sapphire Reserve cardmembers departing from Austin (no access on arrival)

  • Offering complimentary local beverages (“like cider from Austin Eastciders and beer from (512) Brewing Company as well as non-alcoholic beverages” and grab-and-go food items.

  • Featuring “shuffleboard, a giveaway, and more” and “artwork from Austin artist and muralist Rex Hamilton that’s inspired by the vibrant colors and native flowers of Texas.”

Sapphire Reserve cardmembers will be eligible to bring two guests. The space will be open daily 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Here’s the current outdoor space near gate 1 that this ‘Sapphire Terrace’ is replacing.

This is in contrast to Sapphire lounges, that are being opened in conjunction with Airport Dimensions (which operates The Club lounges and is owned by the same company as Priority Pass) though I wouldn’t be surprised to see Chase open one of those into space that should become available in the airport over the next few years.

  1. I don’t understand the context of that last paragraph “This is in contrast to… the club…” Is someone else operating the lounge in Austin?

  2. If they do this right I see it as the final nail in the Coffin for American Express
and their poor customer service and challenging benefits that only sometimes work
I’ve had to fight for airline fee credits.

It could insure my card membership with chase going forward
I no longer pay to enter the Admirals Clubs unless complimentary and it’s free abroad as well as in San Diego or when flying INT First
.Amex has poor transfer partners and well Delta just sucks

  3. @bryan – I updated the post to clarify that this is available on departure from Austin only, and not on arrival (you need to show both your Sapphire Reserve card and your boarding pass for access)

  4. There appears to be a new Sapphire lounge at the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. This would be near D gates.

  5. We can use one or more Sapphire Lounges at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
LAX has 9 terminals and ranks in the top five busiest USA airports
As of today, Priority Passes STILL has ZERO lounges available at LAX.
I contacted Priority Pass about this a year ago and there’s been no progress.
