Air Europa launched its own frequent flyer program, Suma in December.
Like Copa and United, Air Europa decided to build its own program rather than renting the loyalty engine of a larger partner carrier.
Initially at launch they were offering to status match Air France Flying Blue elites. I wrote at the time, “We’ll see, once people start registering and submitting requests, whether they’ll status match elites from other programs as well.”
Via Loyalty Lobby that appears to be what they’re doing.
All you need to do is to sign up for the program, email levelsuma@air-europa.com with a photo of frequent flier card from a competing program, your SUMA frequent flier number and request status match.
What’s been reported is a match to SUMA’s Gold level (and even a match from another SkyTeam frequent flyer program, in this case Alitalia):
Don’t expect lounge access on domestic US flights as a SkyTeam elite.
SkyTeam isn’t as generous with lounge access as Star Alliance or oneworld. SkyTeam status can get you airport priority services and free checked bags, but SkyTeam lounge access benefits apply to international itineraries only. If you are flying a purely domestic itinerary in the United States, your SkyTeam status will not entitle you to Delta lounge access although there are always reports of exceptions being made (usually on a ‘one time basis’ although offered over and over).
At Loyalty Lobby, they are reporting matches to only Sky Team carrier status
Click on the Loyalty Lobby article linked to above, and read the comments there. You’ll find this is just one more in an unending series of misleading and useless click bait posts.
My batting average for those exceptions is quite low
@beachfan – Where? The linked article says they are matching status from competing airlines including Sky Team alliance ones – that doesn’t necessarily mean they are only matching Sky Team carrier status.
In their reply, they only offer the status matching to flyingblue elite member.
Too good to be true.
Dear Sir / Madam:
Regarding your status match request, we regret to inform you that unfortunately we cannot process it as it is only valid for Flying Blue members.
This is what I got back from them.
Dear customer,
We regret to inform you that it is only possible to match the level for customers from the Flying Blue Program.
We apologize for the inconvenience.
KInd regards.
