Singapore Airlines is introducing fantastic new products for their Airbus A380s.
They have 5 new planes replacing 5 that are being returned to their lessor, and those are being delivered over the next year. They’ll be introduced into service with the new first suites and new business class that offers double beds for passengers traveling together.

Singapore’s remaining 14 A380s will receiving the new cabin products and Singapore Engineering will work with Airbus to complete them all by 2020.

While a reduction in suites from 12 to 6 will make an already difficult award to get with miles even harder (especially for an airline that preserves the exclusivity of its cabin by frequently not releasing unsold seats as saver awards), it’s exciting to see the new product take flight.
And Singapore’s CEO does say that they do intend to make seats available on miles so perhaps there will eventually saver awards available for the product using KrisFlyer miles — a transfer partner of Citi, Chase, and American Express — after all.
Just to experience the new Suites I’d be willing to spend extra miles for Singapore ‘standard’ award — 130,000 miles one way for Singapore – Sydney, 210,000 for Europe – Singapore, and 225,000 for New York JFK – Singapore provided the A380 stays on the route.
Frankly I want to swivel in my chair, the way I used to in the old American Airlines Flagship First Suite.
And indeed we’re no longer going to be limited to flights on the Sydney – Singapore route to experience this new product because Singapore has
- Singapore – London Heathrow, 11:45 p.m. – 5:55 a.m.+1, Singapore Airlines SQ322 [Wednesdays, Fridays, Sundays effective February 16 – April 4]
- London Heathrow – Singapore, 9:10 a.m. – 6:05 a.m.+1, Singapore Airlines SQ305 [Mondays, Thursdays, Saturdays effective February 17 – April 5]
- Singapore – Hong Kong, 8:25 a.m. – 12:25 p.m., Singapore Airlines SQ860 [Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Sundays effective February 18 – April 6]
- Hong Kong – Singapore, 2:10 p.m. – 6:10 p.m., Singapore Airlines SQ863 [Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Sundays effective February 18 – April 6]
Hong Kong switches to SQ856/861 Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays effective April 8.
Ultimately all of Singapore’s A380s will be retrofit with these new products, although of course which routes are served by the A380 may change in the future. Los Angeles and San Francisco no longer see A380s, for instance, leaving New York JFK as the only US airport served by the plane — and that too could change when Singapore Airlines launches New York – Singapore non-stop with the new A350 ULR or Ultra Long Range.
Looks great! I need a decent Star Alliance account. Have United but I never fly them.
I know we all (excl. me) love to trash them, but AA’s Flagship First seats have had the swivel/office feature since I’ve been sitting in them. I find it quite useful, esp. on long flights like DFW-HKG.
