News and notes from around the interweb:
- TSA stops man with play money and white sugar packets in a briefcase
- Blogger stuck on Cocos Islands while Virgin Australia flights keep going mechanical
- Skift‘s Brian Sumers interviews the Senior vice president at Airport Lounge Development which runs The Club lounges and she shares Priority Pass details, how they work with airports, and how lounge guests behave.
- NPR picked up my explanation for why the DOT didn’t adopt a new ancillary fee disclosure rule in either the Obama or Trump administrations: “because it was dumb.”
- Now that American Airlines is wholly in the Central Terminal at New York LaGuardia, in addition to the Admirals Club at gate D1, they’ve opened a “Guest Services Center” for club members by gate C6. It has pre-packaged food (eg chips, cookies and granola bars) and soft drinks (coffee, tea, soda, and mineral water)
LaGuardia is the site of the very first Admirals Club — indeed the very first airport lounge — when Mayor LaGuardia came under fire for his lavish personal office at the airport and an alternative use had to be found for the space.
- Willie Walsh, CEO of IAG which is the parent of British Airways, Iberia, and Aer Lingus, lost a bet to Richard Branson and is supposed to get kicked in the groin.
- Hilton is cancelling some accounts that pool points even when members report (note, report) following the rules.
- When Northwest Airlines ushered in a new era in treating alcoholic pilots
Only a truly “vibrant” hotel loyalty program would introduce a new benefit and then start canceling accounts for perfectly legal uses of said benefit. Lol.
Great article from Skift and insight from Nancy Knipp from the lounge company.
