Luxury Travel Diary, a high-end travel blog with great reviews based in the UK, has a bunch of travel auctions — some about to close, others extend into October — and there look to be some real bargains.
They wanted to highlight some of these, and offered to help organize a giveaway of a 3 night hotel stay in a suite at a top property in New York for readers of this blog. Details on how to comment on this post to win below.
I suppose that folks who already know about these auctions won’t like the added attention, because frankly there aren’t enough bidders relative to the value of the offerings and some of these items go too cheap.
Here’s an auction ending in 3 days for a private jet flight between New York and California – a transcon – going for 1000 British pounds as of this writing. There’s no minimum/reserve price, which is ridiculous.
Or 3 nights in St. Barts for 103 pounds as I write this:
There’s page after page of auctions to scroll through, generally nice places that appear to be selling for less than they should.
Prize: a three-night stay in a terrace suite at The William New York – subject to availability with no blackouts.
The property is currently rated 11 out of 189 ‘specialty lodging’ options on TripAdvisor, with 4.5 stars.
The William is a modern extended stay hotel located near Bryant Park in Manhattan. Stay for a month or more and be immersed in a lifestyle localized in culture, yet tailored in service. Thoughtfully crafted for our discerning clientele, The William features thirty-three guest suites that leave no detail unexplored.
These reviews look pretty typical:
To enter: leave a comment on this post with your favorite item up for auction at Luxury Travel Diary, or why you would choose to stay at The William over other hotels in New York. You may enter two times if you wish and answer those two questions one time each in separate comments.
Contest deadline and drawing winner: Entries close Friday, October 2 at Noon eastern. I will draw winner with the assistance of random.org.
The fine print: For avoidance of doubt I have no affiliation with either Luxury Travel Diary or The William hotel. I will put the winner in touch with the hotel for booking. They are solely responsible for providing prize to winner. All decisions made in the course of running this giveaway are final and unappealable and your entry signifies your acceptance. The goal here is to make readers aware of a pretty cool auction opportunity, and to give away a suite stay in New York. So please don’t make it hard on me for doing so!
My favorite item up for auction is the Andaz 5th Avenue.
Entry #1 🙂
Uh, my favorite item up for auction would be the private jet flight. Yea, that would work!
2 nights at the Hyatt Chesapeake simply because it’d be a nice weekend getaway during a busy time for the wife and I. Plus it’s going for 55 pounds
I’d like to stay at the William because I have a friend who stayed there, and he loved it!
Entry #2: I’d like to stay at The William cause you think highly of it!
I would stay at the william because i love the location.
A free stay by Bryant park! That’s the best spot in town! Especially when travelling with our mini schnauzers!
Wow! What an opportunity..a stay in a sought after property rather than a run of the mill, avail inexpensive hotel! Chance to see how the others live!
I’d be interested in the overnight stays at Minute Suites (didn’t even know this was an option)!
I would stay at the William because it’s location is superb!
I would love to win that three night hotel prize raffle giveaway.

I’d choose to stay at The William because it’s close to GCT and many great bars.
Fav auction is the one for two nights at the andaz xintiandi in Shanghai
My favorite auction item has got to be the private jet ride. Let’s go!
(Auction Entry): A tree house in Missouri
(Hotel Entry): The hotel is conveniently located
I’d stay at The William because of the blue staircase. It casts an intriguing and somewhat spooky glow.
Definitely would pick the 3 night trip to St. Barts….what a value and look what its going for with 2 days left. Thanks for the tip! Oh and seriously…..October 2nd is my birthday!!!!

I’d love staying at The William — so close to Eataly and Shake Shack!
Would not mind spending some time at the The William, only because I’m usually in lesser hotels……
My favorite item up for auction at Luxury Travel Diary: 2-nights at the Shawnee Inn. I especially like the idea of luxury “camping.” Yes, that might work for my girlfriend.
definitely the trip to st. bart’s
Favorite auction has to be the private jet!
Why I would choose to stay at The William over other hotels in New York: of course, at twice the price (if I win), it’s still a bargain. But I love the NYC Library main branch just two blocks away, and centrally located for everything midtown. And it would be a good chance to get out of my home (10 minutes away by subway) while I have some painting done.
My favorite item up for auction is definitely the private jet flight from NY to CA! What an amazing experience that would be!
One of my favorite items up for auction is: https://www.luxurytraveldiary.com/auction/?ult_auc_id=15245
It is literally impossible to find quality, affordable hotels in the Hamptons. If the final price of the auction ends anywhere near the price it is now, it’ll be the bargain of a century.
I’d stay at The William over other hotels in NYC because of it’s proximity to all my favorite places! Plus, the suites are significantly nicer than the typical hotel rooms that are available in the same neighborhood.
I would choose to stay at The William because it has such a boutique feel relative to large chains!
One of my favorite items up for auction is: https://www.luxurytraveldiary.com/auction/?ult_auc_id=15212
Maine is one of my all-time favorite vacation destinations. The state itself is relatively small and Camden is situated close enough to my favorite towns to visit that this hotel option is pretty hard to beat!
I’d stay at The William over other hotels in NYC because of it’s proximity to all my favorite places! Plus, the suites are significantly nicer than the typical hotel rooms that are available in the same neighborhood.
Can I choose two? I’m liking the transcon jet flight as well as the 5 nightsat the John F in Berlin.
I’d like to stay at the William since I rarely stay at boutique hotels, the location is great, and winning it would give me a reason to visit my home town!
Private Jet! Yeah, baby!
Private jet!
The Summerfield Rose Retreat and Spa would be great. It’s currently priced at 3 euros!
I’d like to stay because the location of The William is top notch.
I like the St Barts hotel opportunity up on the website – wish they had more US properties though! Thanks for the great blog post.
I’d like the William as a positioning stay for an SQ F JFK-FRA flight!
I like the William’s boutique quality – under 40 rooms means more dedicated service and hopefully a better stay. Thanks for the opportunity!
Palacio Duhau – Park Hyatt Buenos Aires – that’s my pick!
I like the private jet (need to get flights from east coast to west coast to connect with Virgin Australia for upcoming anniversary trip anyway), but I wanted to be a bit more inventive, so, I’ve got: 2 NIGHTS AT SUMMERFIELDS ROSE RETREAT, SOUTH AFRICA — which looks like it’d be fun!
I love NYC and a stay at the William would give me an excuse to go there, staying in a super location too!

Great city, great location!
3 NIGHTS AT WAIPUNA ESTATE, CHRISTCHURCH, NEW ZEALAND
These items list outrageous amounts as the value of the item expressed by the donor. So can a bid winner expect a 1099 reporting these values so that the donors can deduct these outrageous amounts?
4 Night Yacht Charter With Kalimba Caribbean Tours
2 nights at Trevose Harbour House, St Ives, Cornwall
Would love to visit NY with my parents and treat them with a stay at The William!

The William looks like an excellent choice for an extended stay in the city.
Yacht hire for 4 nights
The William looks great — 3 nights in NYC is a no-brainer.
I stayed a few nights at Le Sereno about 4 years ago — it’s a lovely discrete property designed by Christian Liaigre. The bid of 103 pounds would barely check you in to the island’s cheapest hotel for one night in low season on this pricey island — worth checking in to.
I’d like to stay at the William so I can razz my brother, William!
My favorite item currently on luxury travel diary is the two night stay at the Andaz in NYC.

I would love the three nights in St Barts to relax and enjoy the beauty!
My favorite, the 7 night stay at Jannah Burj Al Sarab in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
I would choose the Bellmere on Richards, Queensland because Australia is where our 34th anniversary vacation cruise is ending in 2016. Just look at the kangaroos wandering the grounds; if that’s not prototypical Australia, I don’t know what would be!
I had never hear of The Williams until today. Looks like an awesome property to stay!
I’d choose to stay at The William for two (2) reasons: the Nespresso coffee/tea machines in each room and the rooftop garden!
The Andaz on 5th Ave in NYC caught my eye, I’ll be bidding on that! Are there other auction sites like this? I am now on their mailing list and expect that I will be a heavy user (assuming I can get my Paypal account reactivated).
Going to NYC next summer. Would be great to stay at The William for free!
I’d love to stay at the William because of the location and it looks like a really nice place.

Why the private jet flight of the course…
The William is well located and the general options in NYC are good location or decent size room. The William gives you both.
The private jet flight for less than the major airlines Transcon F is my favorite.
Almost forgot. I would stay at the William over other hotels in NYC because I wouldn’t be bothered about whether I will get an upgrade or not! It’s nice to not worry about the room you will get.

The William looks much nicer than the NYC hotels we usually stay in when visiting our son.
The William would be great for a trip I have planned to NYC to take my niece to see her first Broadway play for her 16th birthday. I would be better than other hotels to stay there as it has a great location, a kitchen to help out as my niece has some dietary restrictions and it would just make her birthday extra special to stay in a cool modern hotel on her first trip to NYC.
My pick from the list – Christchurch.
An el cheapo stay in St Barts during hurricane season. For what more could one ask?
I frequently visit NYC and am always looking for different places to stay. The William New York has a great location and looks great!

i’d choose the William for it’s location
It has got to be the Private Jet. I realize that first is always the best way to go, but tell me what domestic carrier is that good. I’ve flown first on both AA and Delta, and I fly Hawaiian all the time, but there is NO comparison to the International airlines. This would be the ultimate! It’s on the top of my bucket list. Right now it’s 1500 pounds. I am seriously thinking of bidding. The plane flies 8 passengers, at this rate its cheaper than flying coach 🙂
The William looks like it’s in a fantastic location, centrally located to lots of different spots in Manhattan.
As for the auctions, the private jet does sound fantastic! But I’d probably bid on something cheaper like the Andaz 5th Avenue.
I would love to stay at the hotel since it’s just a stone’s throw from Broadway and Madison Square Garden. A lot of entertaining night can be had so close to the hotel.

Gary, why do the vast majority of these comments all sound like they’re coming from one person connected to the hotel or auction site? Surely from all the comments you read, you recognize a strange pattern in the replies also.
I’d choose The William over other hotels in New York for its cool and hip design touches as well as its location.

Three nights at the Rose Cottage in St. Andrews so I could surprise my husband with a trip he just can’t find time to make happen on his own. The minute suites offering looks interesting. I am tempted to bid on it and check them out next time in PHL.
It is La Sereno in St Barts for me

I’d rather stay at The William than any other place in NYC because it just looks like more fun than any other place I’ve stayed in NYC.
Hi,
the William is a great Hotel, specially after a long flight from Chile, which is were I live.
I would love to win , so that I can invite my sister.
regards
Nancy
Favorite item: Cross country flight from NYC to LAX. Who doesn’t love flying in a private jet?
Best auction for me is the HOTEL MARINEDDA THALASSO & SPA, SARDINIA
Why the hotel: Free hotel room in NYC? What’s not to like!
The William is in a great area, and the suites look amazing!
The 2 night stay at Langanes Luxury Villa in Iceland calls to me, because my girlfriend and I have been considering a trip to Iceland anyway. With the view of Eyjafjallajökull nearby, that place would be a great stay.
2 NIGHTS AT THE HYATT ANDAZ XINTIANDI, SHANGHAI, CHINA
Cottage in Kihei Hawaii.
The Williams looks amazing. I love their color palette, with the broad swaths and bright colors. The location is great, too, right near Grand Central.
Just bid on the auction in Maine, so that’s my favorite right now.
The Williams looks awesome! I’ve never seen so much space in a hotel room in NY, especially for extended stay!
Best auction for me is PRIVATE JET FLIGHT FOR 2 NY TO CA OR CA TO NY
I would love to win a trip and hotel deal. New York city is a great place to visit. I travel to new York quite a bit. Love the scenery.
Looking at the 2 Nights At The Hyatt Andaz Xintiandi, Shanghai, China. I often go to Hangzhou for business but it’d be great to stop by Shanghai for the weekend and stay at the Andaz.
Everything about The William looks delightful. I always try the boutique hotels in NYC. The bright colors alone are enough to make me want to stay there. The location near Bryant Park just adds to the allure!
I want to spend some time in Argentina and my favorite auction is the “2 Night Weekend Stay At Park Hyatt Buenos Aires” and winning that would give me the perfect reason to finally make it happen and explore the beautiful country.
My choice on the auction would be the stay at the Rue Cler Bijou apartment in Paris. It looks beautiful and would make up for the horrible apartment we rented in Paris a few years ago.
I would want to stay at the William because of its great central location and the extended stay nature of the hotel. It will almost be like I live in New York for a couple of days.
My favorite auction available is the 2 Nights At 7132 Hotel & Spa In Vals, Switzerland. Just because I can never get enough of Switzerland and it is usually very expensive to stay there without these auctions and discounts.
I would love to stay at The William, mainly because of it’s location. The proximity to Grand Central makes it a no-brainer to get anywhere in the city. It also looks like a modern hotel, directly in line with the vibe of midtown!
I’d stay at the Williams- because at least its not in Midtown.
I would stay at the William over other hotels in the area because many can feel fairly stuffy, or are located in/around Times Square (would much prefer being off the SW corner of Bryant Park).
Skiing at the hotel Moizi in Sondrio seems pretty sweet.
The William! How can you not want to stay at a hotel named after a prince? Plus, rooms look larger then most hotel rooms, and I love Bryant Park. Would love to try a stay there!
I’d stay at The William because of how modern and up-to-date it is…looks very nice!
I saw 1 night at the hyatt regency sharm al sheikh egpyt – going to be in the region soon and will be a nice way to spend a night – especially if can get for cheap!
My fave item up for auction is the stay at the treehouse in Missouri! Unexpected luxury, I guess!
I would stay at the William because it’s so close to Grand Central – can literally get anywhere in the city or brooklyn from a few steps away
I think the trip on the jet would make you fell like a boss.
I like the private jet flight!
I’d stay at the William because of the excellent location!
My favorite LTD auction item currently on the list is the 1-night stay at Diamonds Start of the East in Zanzibar. Because Zanzibar. ‘Nuff said.

I heart new york!
Of course the Private Jet between NYC and CA… Great deal.
How could you not like The William, with spacious rooms. Just in time for my New York trip in November.
Love the treehouse option on the auction.
I would take the 6 nights for 6 at Shwari Watamu Villa, Kenya. I could take my family to see the beauty and majesty that is Kenya.

I’d stay at The William just for the decor. Amazing!
I’d say that my favorite auction item would be the transcontinental private jet flight. This is a total bucket list item!
I look at the color pallet of The William and instantly think “What fun!”. Staying amid vivid designs sets the tone for an exciting NYC trip. Many boutique hotels stay safe with gray, I guess that’s ok if you plan on sleeping the whole time. Kudos to the Williams designers for bold choices.
The 5 Nights At Boutique Hotel Adriatic In Rovinj, Croatia looks amazing. Have always wanted to visit Croatia and this may just be the offer that gets me there!
I would stay at the Williams so that I don’t have to take the Path back to Newark.
The William looks like a great place to call home for a few days. The Bryant Park location is fantastic, and the amenities are something you don’t often find at many NYC boutique hotels.
I would love to visit NYC and not have to stay in a cheap dump.
My fav is the 5 Nights At Ka’ana & Itz’ana Resorts, Belize auction.
I would stay at the William because it’s not some cookie cutter clone with terrible decor.
I’d love a stay at The William as it’s such a cool looking place AND right next to my favorite NY urban spot, Bryant Park, where one can sip coffee in the summer and watch the world go by or ice skate over the holiday season!
I would stay at the William because it’s so close to Grand Central
I have never stayed at the William Hotel. In fact I am not aware of it in NYC. However I am a long standing and very respected museums director in Canada. I oversee some 2000 museums and art galleries in Canada and I am active internationally with UN agencies. I would love to have several nights in a terraced room at The William.

I love the Bryant Park area so staying at the William would be perfect.
The William is in the perfect location, and looks like a great extended-stay hotel meets luxury boutique.
Usually too expensive for me but would love to treat the Wife in the Big Apple
A suite at The William would be perfect for our first visit to New York with our 6 and 9 year old grand children. The location is perfect. The colorful decor appealing to both young and old. The size and the furnishings are just what you need for a family.
