Delta and partners KLM, Air France, and Kenya Airways can get you from Los Angeles to Kenya and back for a little over $2000 in business class.
This is a perfect opportunity to visit Africa comfortably. I get many requests for awards to Kilimanjaro and often times the best solution is to fly into Nairobi 145 miles away. And of course many safaris will use Nairobi as the jumping off point. As well it’s an African hub that can get you most anywhere else in the region.

These fares are widely available, though which days and how often will depend on the month in which you’re looking to travel. Small variations in price will be a result of different taxes transiting different airports.
Here’s a sample one-stop itinerary via Amsterdam:
This Delta fare is available for a very brief time, and you can book travel through end of schedule provided there’s Z inventory available on all flights.
Key things to know:
- 14 day advance purchase
- Saturday stay required
- If you route via South Africa you can have a free stopover in each direction in Johannesburg and/Capetown. If you route via Paris a stopover is permitted in each direction for $100 each.
- Rules say tickets have to be issued by February 21 though I wouldn’t expect the fare to be around that long.
- Nonrefundable and $450 change fee
This is an $800 fare in each direction plus a $410 fuel surcharge and taxes.
