Cathay Pacific has announced service to a new US city, Seattle, right as Delta is pulling out of the Seattle – Hong Kong market. This starts March 31 from Hong Kong to Seattle, and April 1 Seattle to Hong Kong. The flight will run four days a week on the following schedule,
- Seattle – Hong Kong, 1:45 a.m. – 5:25 a.m.+1 Cathay Pacific CX857 [Monday/Wednesday/Friday/Sunday]
Hong Kong – Seeattle, 11:55 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. Cathay Pacific CX858 [Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday/Sunday]
The flight will be operated by an Airbus A350-900 with 38 business class seats, 28 in premium economy, and 214 in coach. There’s no first class.
Just seven months ago Cathay announced new service to Washington Dulles which starts in September. One of the things about new routes is that they often have award space available when schedules first load.
And that’s true in this case. Space for four business class passengers is wide open.
Flights between the US and ‘Asia 2’ are 70,000 American AAdvantage miles in business class. Alaska Airlines charges 50,000 miles — or if you connect to Australia it’s 60,000 — 62,500 to Africa or India.
The addition of Seattle brings Cathay service to 8 US cities including New York JFK, Newark, Boston, Chicago O’Hare, Washington Dulles, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. They fly to Toronto and Vancouver as well.
Cathay Pacific U.S. Routes
Cathay has a strong business class product. And Cathay business class awards are bookable again by partners which seems important given this new announcement: Cathay will need and want feed from Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan members.
Are those fully flat or angled seats?
Alaska and British air dont show these flights. Is this something we need to call in or is it bookable online?

They are a full flat seat, and pretty comfortable. Same seats as AA’s 777W, Avianca’s 787, etc.

Love Alaska but they are pitiful in partner award availability with a number of routes never available
@dwondermeant I have done pretty good with Alaska. Hate calling to book over the phone for Cathay. Some of the reps are plain terrible and will give bad or wrong information. Even when the rep can book the ticket it can take at least 30 mins on the phone. If you think Alaksa is bad, try American. More restrictive
