Hyatt-American Airlines Partnership Miles Posting Quickly

Two weeks ago American and Hyatt launched their new partnership offering points-earning in each program for activities with the other and reciprocal status challenges as well. You can link your accounts to start earning on the American side or on the Hyatt side (it does not matter which you use).

  • American elites earn 1 AAdvantage mile per dollar spent with Hyatt (that’s a 20% bonus on top of base points offered)
  • Hyatt elites earn 1 Hyatt point per dollar spent on American flights (that’s a 20% bonus on top of base points offered)
  • American Airlines ConciergeKey members receive World of Hyatt Globalist status and status challenges to elites from the other program

I’m a Hyatt Globalist and an American Executive Platinum. I’m eligible for a fast track to requalify for Hyatt status, but I’m already about 60% there at the end of May. I don’t expect difficulty requalifying.

Last week I had my first American Airlines flight and Hyatt stay since the program launched and reciprocal points-earning have already posted to both my American AAdvantage and World of Hyatt accounts.

My Hyatt stay completed Thursday, May 23 posted to my American AAdvantage account with a May 24 date sometime between Monday morning on the 27th and Tuesday morning on the 28th.

I’m surprised things happened this quickly considering it generally takes two days for Hyatt stays to post to Hyatt accounts and that put us into the Memorial Day weekend.

Meanwhile my American Airlines flight from Tuesday, May 21 posted to my Hyatt account with detail of the correct date of travel, route, and flight number (blacked out below):

Between Hyatt and American this new partnership should net me an additional 25,000 points per year and I’m impressed by the speed at which these partner points are posting.

  1. New to Hyatt this year, but 95% of the time the stays have posted next day for me…just like the good ol days of SPG

  2. Couple of questions on this:

    1. Do flights purchased before the linking also generate Hyatt points based on spend, or only those purchased after linking accounts?

    2. Would we expect that things like AA Vacations, and other “Special” or “Unknown” fares would generate some Hyatt points, i.e. is there some way that they can determine some measure of eligible spend even if EQDs post by mileage?

    Cheers.
