IHG Rewards Club Announcing Reward Night Price Changes Tomorrow

IHG Rewards Club shares news:

    I wanted to give you a head’s up that tomorrow, January 29, IHG will be sharing a Reward Night point requirement update with our members on our website.

    Point redemptions will either increase or decrease by 5,000 or 10,000 IHG Rewards Club points at 400 of our more than 5,000 hotels worldwide. All Reward Night reservations made prior to February 17, 2016 will be honored at the current point requirement levels.

    Please note that the web page will not be live until sometime tomorrow.

That’s about the same number of properties that changed categories last year, and by the same amounts.


Intercontinental Boston

A hotel going up from 10,000 to 15,000 points a night is seeing a 50% increase. Some hotels are going up as much as twice that or 10,000 points per night. So take this opportunity to look at hotels changing categories and see whether booking before February 17 will save you points.

We don’t yet know what proportion of hotels are increasing relative to those that are decreasing, though changes will occur for fewer than 10% of IHG Rewards Club properties.

  1. So glad I didn’t buy their points recently I knew the discount was a phony!
    I’m going to cancel all my revenue bookings with them and ditch the promotion if the InterCons all go up 10k
    The crappy properties will go down that no one wants to stay in while the nice properties will go sky high
    They are becoming the next Hilton but at that point Ill go back with Hilton as at least you can get the occasional suite and breakfast or club is a guarantee as an elite

  2. Last time around they increased more than they decreased, the increases were larger on average, and the increases were to properties that people would want to stay at, while the decreases were in the middle of nowhere.

  3. The question is: will any increases stay within the current parameters (ie max 50k/night) or are we about to see the top level raised to 60k per night?

  4. I think it is a pretty safe bet, given their wording, that you will see some ICs going to 60k. Too bad, given that I’ve banked / bought about 2 million IHG points in anticipation of living at the ICs in San Francisco full time starting sometime soon. I would bet a lot of money that they both go to 60k. Time for employment elsewhere…

    Now if only those Priceless Surprise Promotion points would post faster….

  7. Scary changes. Lots of 60k hotels now. Even some smaller places like parts of Florida went up 10k.

  8. I was lucky for a change. Booked the Frankfurt, Germany IC for 4 nights in April at 40,000 per night.
