Martin Short Volunteers His Airline Seat So Father And Daughter Can Sit Together

Chance the Rapper – 29 year old Chancelor Bennett – was the first person ever to win a Grammy Award for a streaming-only album in 2016. He’s a big deal, even if not all readers will know him.

But he’s not beyond being star struck. He relays that he was flying with his daughter and “found out” that they weren’t seated beside each other. He hadn’t even mustered himself to ask passengers around him to switch seats when a “kind older gentleman offered his seat to” Chance’s daughter. It was Martin Short.

So I just got on this plane with my daughter, and found out our seats weren’t next to each other. I really ain’t wanna inconvenience anyone by asking them to swap seats, but before I could say anything this kind older gentleman offered his seat to Kensli so we could sit together. We both said thank you and as he stands up, I realize it’s THE Martin Short!! So cool and Kensli freaked out cause she’s obsessed with The Santa Clause 3. What an awesome person! SHOUTOUT TO JACK FROST

The Primetime Emmy and Tony award-winning Saturday Night Live alum, who has starred in Three Amigos, Dalmations II, Santa Clause 3, and Madagascar 3, was paying attention to the passengers around him, noticed that they’d been split up and wanted to be together, and took it upon himself to offer to switch.

It’s possible to be a big star and be concerned with the needs of those around you (Short). And it’s possible to be in awe of such a star, and gracious enough to offer public recognition (Chance). Both of those things offer a bit of positive inspiration that’s too often missing from inflight interactions and from society more broadly, right?

Although this take seems fair:

Oh come on Jordan buy a clue.
    She’s a child obsessed with a

More details on this great story would be nice. What class were
they on? Window, aisle or hell?
    What airline? From/to where?
    And most importantly, how does
Mr. Chance not know about seat assignments?
    Journalism is dying…..

  2. And respect to Mr. Chance for not wanting to inconvenience anyone by asking to switch. What a breath of fresh air.

  3. Well, these three people probably were not sitting in economy seating and no matter what seat they switched to, it was still going to be a good one, because they probably fly first class. Not like us regular people who pay a little extra for a tiny bit of extra leg room and go broke because we do so.

  4. Wondering why anyone who travels with a child these days would not already know where they are going to be seated ahead of time.
    IMO

  5. He is an American Hero and should be awarded a medal
Why didn’t they write a headline for me when I did it in the past?

  6. It’s nice to know that talented comedian Martin Short didn’t stop short in his classy display of courtesy toward the young daughter of Chancellor Bennett (“Chance the Rapper”). He certainly was a gentleman in offering to swap seats with Kensli during their chance meeting. Way to go, dude.

  7. Guy’s daughter is like six years old or something. How does he not know if they are sitting together?
