One U.S. Airline Now Makes Passengers Certify Their Health Before Flying

Frontier Airlines has started to fog its planes to kill any viruses that may be on board. Unlike Delta they do not appear to plan to be doing this between every flight, but they’ll ‘wipe down with disinfectant’ each night. They say the fogging treatment is effective for 10 days.

Starting this week Frontier began asking passengers three questions during check-in:

  • Have you or anyone in your household exhibited COVID-19 symptoms in the past 14 days?

  • Will you check your temperature prior to heading to the airport (and not travel with if you have a fever)?

  • Will you wash/sanitize your hands prior to boarding?

There doesn’t appear to be plans to verify compliance – just obtaining agreement to remind passengers of best practices. In some ways it’s reminiscent of a check-in agent asking passengers “did you pack your bags yourself? Have the bags been out of your control since you packed them?”

Anybody with nefarious ends won’t answer honestly. These questions are helpful for someone whom it wouldn’t occur to that they shouldn’t expose others if they have a fever, or wouldn’t occur to that they should wash their hands. Are there still such people left?

On April 1 the President said that “they’re doing tests on airlines – very strong tests – for getting on, getting off.” It’s possible he was referring to taking passenger temperatures rather than administering COVID-19 tests. However even that isn’t happening broadly either.

Frontier doesn’t plan to start. Instead they’re making passengers promise to take their own temperatures and to wash their hands. And they’re asking flight crew to do the same.

  1. You’ve started to use the verb ‘fog’ without defining it. Google is no help in this regard. Give us a view into your mind. VIYM, please

  2. About as helpful as asking has your luggage been in your possession all the time with you
But creates an illusion they are doing something over nothing
Passengers should be vetted and given temperature checks before boarding
Better yet have clearance from their Drs they are healthy and fit to fly 24 to 48 hours prior to departure as difficult as that may be to achieve
I’m not getting on a plane till their is plenty of testing ,and or a cure ,treatment ,a vaccine and plenty of hospital space ventilators for all and a sense of calm if you do need medical assistance

  3. Talking about certification to travel: According to the US Consulate in Thailand: “after…March 22 requirement for non-Thai citizens entering Thailand to present [“COVID-19″] virus-free medical certificate and health insurance.” Not planning to go to Thailand for a while (maybe 2021 or 2022); however, I have no idea where I could get a “virus-free medical certificate” or “COVID-19” specific “health insurance.”

I also wonder how many other countries have/are going to propose similar requirements. WTH: Some (including USA Senators) have discussed COVID-19 anti-body testing for the USA population with those with immunity being put into a national database, like the national vaccine database.

go live in a cave. You don’t deserve to fly or even travel…a doctor’s permission note??? Really…so many nanny-staters and too paranoid people. Even if/when millions start dying…that shouldn’t be a requirement.

Life is a risk…live with it. People die, live with it. 2.8 million Americans die every year…

  5. Back when I was young I had to get yellow fever and some other shots before traveling to Africa. Still have that yellow piece of paper in my passport pouch.
    Covid19 stamp might be next?
