Dallas Love Field has 20 gates. They are legally forbidden to build more. (Thanks, Congress!)
Southwest has 16 gates. They’ve subleased 2 from United. That’s 18. The other 2 gates are controlled by Virgin America.
Delta flies from the former United gates. There’s a big court battle over whether they’ll be able to continue to squat on those gates or not. And it all started with the federal government requiring American to give up its gates to Virgin America.

Ben Mutzabaugh has a good piece on the other really bad airports, although I suspect investments at LaGuardia won’t make it better any time soon.

Representative John Mica (R-FL) has introduced legislation to cap checked bag fees at $4.50.
He’s grandstanding. Because people don’t like paying checked bag fees. So he proposes to eliminate them. To borrow a line from Milton Friedman, Southwest notwithstanding, “there’s no such thing as a free checked bag.”

Premium credit cards offer a dizzying array of benefits you probably didn’t even realize you had — or if you knew at one point, you probably forget when there’s an opportunity to use them.
Break a new electronic device, smash your rental car, run into a merchant who won’t take a return… or the price of something you recently bought drops after you already bought and started using it… there’s something that your credit card company can often do and you get started with a simple phone call.
Was your flight delayed by weather, you didn’t make your connection, and you were stuck paying for a hotel and meals out? Let your credit card company pay you back!

Delta’s lease for gates at Dallas Love Field expires July 6 but they continue to sell tickets after that. Southwest is growing its schedule assuming use of the gates. The federal government says Delta has to be accommodated because it already serves the airport. No matter what the airport does, it gets sued. Now they’re suing to stop the suits.
And even American now says that if DOT claims everyone needs to be accommodated they want gates too even though they pushed for a law that prevents the airport from increasing the number of gates there.
