United’s densest Boeing 737-800s already have 166 seats, or one more row than American’s current configuration and one less row than American’s new plan.
United has said they plan ‘densification’ (more seats in the same amount of room) as well.

I had a couple of American Airlines systemwide upgrades that I wasn’t going to use so I offered them to a friend.
For one of the upgrades American pulled a systemwide from my friend’s account rather than mine. The second upgrade cleared at the gate. And though it’s been a month the upgrade hasn’t been taken from my account.

Last week I received a call from a woman who identified herself as with American’s ‘executive liaison office’ asking about how I feel about American and AAdvantage as one of their most valued customers.
She agreed with my concerns and promised changes to the program soon.

It’s hard to remember the last broadly positive thing any major US airline has done for frequent flyers.
Why do you think American AAdvantage members are the loudest about recent frequent flyer program changes? There’s not a ton of difference between the programs anymore. Delta is less trustworthy. American has worse award space. United doesn’t offer top tier elites international upgrades on any fare. So there are differences, but not nearly as much as there used to be.

It also carries more domestic passengers than any other airline. Its stock has the highest price-earnings multiple of US airlines.

Calls are recorded for quality assurance. Of course airlines can pull up calls when it suits them, they don’t do it on demand for customers, and when we push those calls often can’t be found or recordings are corrupted.
A subpeona could change that.

American AAdvantage has two bags issuing credit cards to members in the U.S.: Citibank and Barclaycard. Citibank advertises online, through direct mail, and in American’s club lounges. Barclaycard advertises in the airport and on flights.
And that Barclaycard product’s offer has gone from 40,000 to 50,000 and now 60,000 miles in a matter of months.

United reportedly locked the World’s Biggest Rabbit in a freezer for hours and them cremated it without permission. They shoved a 71 year old man to the ground and threatened to take all his miles. And that doesn’t even get us to David Dao. Yet they’re still making money.
United seems to be learning that customers really want the abuse.
