News and notes from around the interweb:
- YouTuber Cleetus McFarland buys Manatee County airport for $3.5M (HT: Paul H)
- The emotional support animal racket
- ZorkFest, the casino and frequent flyer loyalty conference, is back in the fall. It’s a small upscale gathering of like-minded folks and will be in Vegas, November 1-3. Since it was just announced they’re offering the lowest price on tickets as a ‘flash sale’. Many of you will enjoy it, and location certainly more convenient than Reno last year! I spoke there last year.
The organizer passes along,
NFL schedule is released on May 15th. If there is a home game at Allegiant Stadium, room rates are likely to sky-rocket. People need to book their placeholders right away.
- Capital One Venture X Business has lost Priority Pass restaurant credits for new cardmembers. It’s only a matter of time, then, for existing customers.
- flydubai drops inflight internet
- Indian Creek Airstrip (S81) in Idaho includes the “potential for mules and equipment on the strip and berms”
- Hawaii will have an official hand gesture and no, it’s not giving the figure to tourists.
We have the shaka hand gesture as a sort of salute in Hawaii … “Everything is cool , bro .”
Only difficulty is when whilst holding a can of beer .
I just bought one of the last available Super Early Bird tickets for ZorkFest. I had thought about going last year, but it was a little too much effort (even though I could have stayed at my father-in-law’s house – for free – in South Lake Tahoe). I am a Las Vegas local who lives just off of Flamingo Rd – which runs right past Horseshoe Las Vegas, so it is very convenient for me this year!
Gary, I didn’t know you follow Cleetus 🙂
Never quite expected Garrett to buy an air strip, I figured he was going to try to expand the Freedom Factory to include a strip at SOME point before the developer bought all the land around him (I’m still floored that the Manatee County Supervisors allowed a HOUSING development to go up near a race track – err rezone).
He & his troup have done an amazing job transforming the race track into Freedom Factory – my partner & I have been to a few events there and its been a lot of fun! Can’t wait to see whats in store for Bald Eagle Airfield!
And for those of you not in the know, Garrett (Cleetus) started as an intern with a race team then became the social media guru for a car racing magazine. Freedom Factory is about 10 minutes east of I-75 in Sarasota and has events year-round… many are fun even for non-car enthusiasts.
