- United employees should see bonuses up to $125 for October performance based on customer satisfaction, exact on-time departures and exact on-time arrivals (not ‘within 15 minutes of schedule). I’d rather see bigger bonuses to individual employees making a bigger difference, but this should at least be focal.

- Expedia acquired Airbnb rival HomeAway for $3.9 billion
- China’s wide-ranging anti-corruption campaign has had huge implications for their economy. Luxury good sales, often purchased with bribe funds or used as bribes, have plummeted in Hong Kong. Now the Chairman of Skyteam member China Southern is being investigated for corruption. An executive vice president of the airline is also under investigation for bribery. What was once ‘how things get done in China’ now has consequences.
- Citibank devalued points transfers to miles in the Australia market without notice but has rolled back those changes within a matter of days. Rolling back changes after consumer complaints may be more common than you think.
- Air Canada tweaks their Distinction offerings for 2016. Whenever they say they’re doing that, I feel creepy crawling up my back.. but it turns out the changes are pretty minor.

Regarding the UA employees, making big bonuses available to thousands of rank and file employees who make a big difference sounds great, in theory. In reality, such a program would be a disaster for a whole bunch of reasons that are pretty easy to think of.
For some reason in our culture we assume that people should receive additional compensation for actually doing the job they were already being paid to do.
