Retro Arcade, Beer Garden, And Facials: Step Inside Philadelphia’s Massive New 20,000-Square-Foot Chase Sapphire Lounge Opening Tomorrow

The Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club at the Philadelphia airport opens on Thursday, February 20. The 20,000 square foot lounge in the Terminal D-E connector features a beer garden and game room with retro arcade machines and multi-screen wall with seating, as well as a la carte menu from Chef Matt Cahn of Middle Child Clubhouse including cheesesteak sliders and potato pancakes.

20,000 square feet is a good size. Will it be big enough? When there are great lounges, travelers will come. They will stay longer than you think (and eat more than you expect), even factoring that they’ll stay longer and eat more than you expect. The problem everyone has with airport lounges is crowding.

Philadelphia adds to Boston, New York LaGuardia and JFK, Phoenix, San Diego, and Washington Dulles as well as Hong Kong. Las Vegas and LAX are also in the pipeline, and the Austin Sapphire Terrace closes next month.

Las Vegas is going to have Amex, Capital One, and Chase lounges in addition to The Club (Priority Pass) and United Club, transforming it from a laggard to one of the better airports for lounges, and relieving pressure on the current Centurion lounge known for its waits.

Access is via Priority Pass cards that come on request with Chase Sapphire Reserve, J.P. Morgan Reserve and Ritz-Carlton Credit Card (primary cardmembers and authorized users). Sapphire Reserve and J.P. Morgan Reserve customers get two complimentary guests per visit, while Ritz-Carlton cardmembers get unlimited guests.

The Club operator Airport Dimensions (owned by Collinson, which also owns Priority Pass) operates these lounges. Non-Chase Priority Pass cardholders receive one visit per calendar year at a Chase Sapphire Lounge, then $75 per person per visit.

  1. Looks nice! Hopefully the uninvited guests of a rodent nature from another lounge at PHL don’t migrate to this one. Cheesecake sliders and potato pancakes sound delicious.

  2. Can’t we just have airports that let you get through them fast enough to not require a Fancy Airport Lounge?

  3. And it will probably be run by HMS Host or some other equally crappy vendor. In two months, the food will suck, they’ll be understaffed and it will be dirty as hell. The mice from the Admirals Club might even move over there.

  4. @L737 — Fantastic call-back!

@Denver Refugee @CHRIS — Apparently, you two have never been to a Chase Sapphire lounge, had a layover at an airport, or been to PHL. First, try LGA or BOS, those two Sapphires are the best. You’ll wish they had one at DEN. No, they are not run poorly—they are excellent—better than Amex lounges, in my opinion. Finally, PHL has a dearth of good lounges, so this is a major improvement for that airport. Still, I’ll remain skeptical until I try it myself, but that’s just a ‘me’ thing. You do you.

  5. Wikipedia: “A beer garden is an outdoor area in which beer and food are served, typically at shared tables shaded by trees.” I don’t really see the tree shading.

  6. @Aria Travels — So original! Did you literally just copy and paste Denver Refugee’s comment without the italics? Maybe this is the VFTW equivalent of a ‘like’ button.
